Who We Are
South Hills Day Camp is located in Scott Township. Owned and operated by the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, South Hills Day Camp is a co-ed day camp with an emphasis on teambuilding, developing positive values, independence and premiere programming and activities. Our child-centered environment focuses on creating community and enriching the lives of our campers, families and staff. We serve children ages 5-15 through meaningful experiences that focus on building connections, teaching values, fostering individual growth and having fun. The JCC Day Camp experience supports, nourishes and sustains our campers, families and staff. We are professionals who have chosen to make a difference.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience and/or qualification in a creating healthy recipe with school-aged children
• History of instructing children ages 5-14 in cooking
• Desire and willingness to work with children
• Ability and willingness to accept supervision and guidance
• Good character, integrity, and adaptability

General Responsibility:
To encourage campers’ growth and skill development within the Cooking specialty area.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Be available for pre-camp planning
• Participate in Staff Week (June 12-16)
• Prepare for and actively participate in staff trainings and meetings
• Assist in conducting initial and end-of-season inventory
• Set up kitchen prior to camp during pre-camp
• Create and implement weekly lesson plans by unit and by age group for all cooking activities
• Lead campers in daily healthy, kosher style cooking programming in a fully equipped teaching kitchen
• Create an end-of-summer “South Hills Day Camp Cookbook” for each camper to take home a copy
• Prepare for and lead week-long chugim (club) 5th-7thgrade campers throughout the summer
• Attend specialist and leadership team meetings at least 3 times per week
• Be responsible for daily opening and closing procedures in the kitchen space
• Responsible for organization of all cooking equipment and appliances
• Assist in shut down procedures and packing all materials and supplies at end of season
• Be a positive, contributing member of the specialist team

Additional Responsibilities:

• Set a good example for campers including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing cleanup and chores, and sportsmanship
• Follow camp rules and regulations
• Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities
• Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy
• Additional responsibilities as assigned

Physical Qualifications:

While performing duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk to hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to obtain ACT 33/34 and FBI clearances, NSOR Certificate and mandated reporter training.
