Required Qualifications:

General Purpose of Position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will build upon and extend a successful record of connecting with students, faculty, and staff through instruction and outreach. We seek a librarian who is committed to cross-functional librarianship, interested in working in a creative and collaborative library environment, and eager to engage in the daily life of the university community. The Coordinator will provide leadership, management, planning and assessment for all operations of the University Archives and Special Collections, including the 5,800sf offsite archives and storage facility. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to incorporating diversity and equity to support the inclusive climate within Belk Library and the Elon University community.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Leads the University Archives & Special Collections department in all aspects of archival management, including the identification, assessment, acquisition, description, storage, access, preservation and disposal of archives in all formats.
  • Supervises, mentors, and evaluates the staff of the University Archives and Special Collections department (3 faculty librarians and 1 non-exempt staff) as well as student employees and interns.
  • Facilitates department’s research and instruction services related to Elon history and to collections contained within the University Archives & Special Collections.
  • Provides campus leadership on committees and initiatives that connect to and/or document Elon history and traditions.
  • Initiates and coordinates outreach, marketing and promotion of the University Archives and Special Collections, including the curation of physical and virtual exhibits.
  • Serves on the library leadership team bringing voice and perspective from the department to set the overall direction of Belk Library’s role in the life of the University, including building and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion competence within Belk Library and the Elon University community.
  • Serves as liaison to designated administrative and/or academic departments. Collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators in the areas of collection development, instruction, research assistance, and access to collections and information.
  • As a faculty librarian, serves as a member of a collaborative cross-functional library team, shares in evening and weekend reference responsibilities, and serves as a Personal Librarian for designated first-year students.
  • Participates in professional development, the activities of regional, statewide, and/or national professional associations and University governance activities as appropriate for Staff with Faculty Rank. Engages in the broader life of the Elon University community to support deeper integration of Belk Library into the life of the campus through appropriate committee work, support of student/faculty events, and/or service activities.
