  • Corporate CWI/Quality Technician*
  • Follow all Steel King SOP’s and work instruction pertaining to CWI’s, inspection, PQR’s, WPS’s, welder qualifications, welder continuities, welder qualification testing, and documentation.
  • Follow all of Steel King Industries SOP’s, Work instructions, and company guidelines.
  • Apply Steel King, AWS, codes, and standards under the direction of the Corporate Quality Manager.
  • Be familiar with the most current editions, of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.3, and AWS A2.4.
  • Conduct welding inspections on Steel King Product.
  • When required by contract documents or Steel King Industries. Perform stamped inspections and keep Steel King/Corporate Quality Manager approved documentation of stamped inspections.
  • Submit Stamped inspections to the Corporate Quality Manager when required.
  • Conduct random inspection audits of non-certified inspectors, and inspection processes as directed by the Corporate Quality Manager.
  • Keep documentation of random audits as directed by Corporate Quality Manager.
  • Oversee the calibration of welding equipment and other inspection equipment.
  • Perform random audits on calibrated equipment and retain documentation for purpose of internal and external audits. Submit documentation to the Corporate Quality Manager as requested.
  • Evaluate welder abilities to determine if employees need to be retrained or requalified. Notifying the Corporate Quality Manager of any weld personal that need to have their qualification revoked.
  • Monitor and notify Corporate Quality Manager of new hires in respective plants to schedule Welder qualification tests.
  • Conduct (CWI) or assist (QT) with welder qualification testing and assist in external qualification testing.
  • Monitor and inventory welder qualification test coupons.
  • Conduct continuity audits of welder qualifications when directed by the Corporate Quality Manager.
  • Submit welder qualification testing and continuity documents to Corporate Quality Manager for record maintenance.
  • Monitor and audit compliance to authorized Steel King WPS’s, codes, and standards. * Notify Steel King Corporate Quality Manager of any non-compliance issues, WPS issues, etc.
  • Serve as a technical resource on the shop floor and in respective plants understanding that they are a resource and not the defining individual in process’s and product evaluations.
  • Conduct pre-employment/pre-temp weld tests.
  • Release new hire/new temps/new welders for welding.
  • Assist in the development of welder training, weld quality, and inspection training programs.
  • Administration of welder training program, weld quality and inspection training programs in their respective plants.
  • Assist in PQR and WPS development when needed and authorized by the Corporate Quality Manager.
  • Audit locked out welder settings and parameters.
  • Adjust and lock in welders setting and parameters for work at hand.
  • Administration of the PAPR weld hood issuance, training, and PAPR weld hood tracking program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must be motivated to embrace and create change within the organization. Willingness to work outside of normally scheduled work hours including but not limited to alternate shifts, overtime, and weekends when necessary. The standard work hours will be 7 am to 4 pm.

Education

  • AWS CWI Certification or the ability to become CWI certified within 12 months of the date of hire
  • CWB Supervisor Certification or the ability to attain CWB Supervisor qualifications within 12 months of the date of hire
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED Knowledge & Experience
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing processes and techniques (5S, Six Sigma, Lean Sigma, Kaizen events, Kaizen blitzes).
  • Understanding of metal fabrication operations including ability to weld, use fabrication equipment, and ability to read blueprints
  • Electrical knowledge
  • Pneumatics knowledge
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Problem solving and resolution skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Regularly stand and walk for extended periods of time * Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts

  • Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and occasionally sit, climb or balance
  • Requires regular lifting of up to 50 pounds
