Days (7a-3:30p) - 40 hours a week
Evenings (3-11:30p) - 40 hours a week
Every other weekend off!
Functions as a member of the Department of Psychiatry's Crisis Stabilization Team serving complex psychiatric patients in crisis in the CPEP and inpatient psychiatric settings.
Responsibilities:
Under general direction and with latitude for independent judgement:
- Provide support to patients as needed including, but not limited to engaging in activity, discussion, addressing needs where appropriate.
- Recognize moments of stress for patients and provide proactive calming strategies that support a positive and therapeutic milieu.
- Responds to psychiatric patients in crisis who are in the CPEP and/or in the inpatient psychiatric unit setting to support the immediate need for de-escalation, to provide patients with emotional and tangible support to regain behavioral control and to support patient's progress towards meeting goals established in their individual care plan.
- Engages in debriefing discussions with the psychiatric team responding to crisis.
- Assist patients to ensure there is clear understanding of the patient's needs, as well as the expectation of safe behaviors on the unit to ensure a safe milieu.
- Manages time in order to provide support to multiple psychiatric units within the day.
- Trains to provide support and respond to patients who are in emotional distress with skills in trauma informed care, verbal de-escalation and OMH approved physical interventions as needed to ensure a safe milieu.
- Communicates with unit staff and Department of Public Safety as necessary to provide unified support of the patient in psychiatric crisis and to ensure a safe milieu.
- Participates in data collection for Crisis Stabilization Team Services.
- Orients and trains new staff.
- Participates in all Quality Improvement activities.
Qualifications:
Associate's degree in a health-related field and 3 years experience in human services, preferably in a psychiatric crisis or emergency setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
