Job Summary:


The Office of Medical Education has an opening for a Critical Care Content Director for the Post-Clerkship Phase of the MD Program at 0.15 FTE.

The Critical Care Content Director for the University of Colorado School of Medicine is responsible for working with the Director of the Basecamp Curriculum, SOM faculty, departments, curriculum deans, and other SOM personnel to create, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve the required medical student Critical Care content.

As part of the post-clerkship phase within the new medical school curriculum, third- and fourth-year students complete a longitudinal acute and critical care learning experience. This experience includes at least two weeks of rotating in one of the intensive care units at a SOM core site and participating in didactics/simulations addressing essential topics and skills. The latter didactic and simulation curriculum is longitudinal and delivered during basecamps and designated afternoons during the critical care rotation. As the Critical Care Course and Requirements are integrated with the required Basecamp Curriculum, the Course Director will report directly to the Director of Basecamps, CUSOM and the Assistant Dean for Medical Education, Post-Clerkship Curriculum.

Major changes or additions to the curriculum will require presentation to and approval by the appropriate curriculum and leadership committees.

Supervision Exercised

Supervise faculty who teach within the Critical Care Course. Responsibilities include assigning work, evaluating, and giving feedback on performance, and rewarding or taking corrective action, as well as addressing issues and resolving problems of faculty performance. Supervise SOM staff in developing student and course schedules.

Specific Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Ensure adequate orientation including content, scheduling, assessment, grading, organization, and course execution.
  • Ensure appropriate course opportunities and availability to meet the needs of students.
  • Serve as a resource and communicate in a timely manner (generally within two business days) with students, administrative staff, and faculty.

Curriculum Execution and Program Innovation

  • Create and implement a longitudinal curriculum to develop student competencies in core critical care topics, including synchronous and asynchronous learning materials, learner and faculty assessments, and course evaluations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate delivery of the critical care curriculum within both the basecamps course and the clinical rotations.
  • Ensure all teaching faculty and students are aware and understand competencies and learning goals.

Curriculum Review, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Accreditation

  • Track, monitor, assess, and identify areas for improvement in individual Course components with the goal of continuous quality improvement or as dictated by the curriculum oversight bodies.
  • With the assistance of the OME Office of Assessment, Evaluation, and Outcomes (AEO) evaluate the effectiveness of the course in achieving learning outcomes.
  • Review all course evaluations annually and provide individualized feedback to faculty aimed at the development of an action plan for changes and improvement for the following academic year.

Student Assessment and Grading

  • Set clear expectations for student performance to support competency-based grading in the Critical Care Course.
  • Support faculty in their grading and feedback process to ensure all students receive fair and effective formative and summative assessments.
  • Ensure all grades are submitted in a timely manner.

Faculty Recruitment, Support & Development

  • Recruit and develop faculty to teach in the Critical Care Course.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, support, and remediation as needed to faculty.

  • Board Certification in Critical Care Specialty

Assistant Professor:

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail are important.
  • The individual in this position needs to be a person who can cultivate relationships with both university and community physicians, as well as students, and be available to answer questions and problem-solve as needed.
  • The individual must enjoy working with students, providing advice on how to troubleshoot/resolve issues, and assisting students to ensure their success.

Anticipated Pay Range:


The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Instructor: $5,000 to $30,000 as .15 FTE salary support plus benefits, up to the educational salary cap of $200,000

Sr. Instructor: $5,000 to $30,000 as .15 FTE salary support plus benefits, up to the educational salary cap of $200,000

Assistant Professor: $5,000 to $30,000 as .15 FTE salary support plus benefits, up to the educational salary cap of $200,000

Associate Professor: $5,000 to $30,000 as .15 FTE salary support plus benefits, up to the educational salary cap of $200,000
