Job description
This is manual, custodial work in the care of public or institutional buildings and surrounding grounds. Employees in the Airport Specialty perform custodial work and limited customer service work. For employees in the Airport Specialty, contact with the public and departmental associates is required to provide information or directions to the information desk, amenities, restrooms, baggage claim, transportation, and exits, and to report damages and security concerns. Employees in the General specialty perform lead worker level custodial work in all departments except for the Airport. Employees in General Specialty also participate in manual work as required. Work is performed under the close supervision of a higher level custodial or other supervisor.

1. CIVIL SERVICE STATUS :
Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status and a Performance Rating of Satisfactory or higher

2. EDUCATION :
Education equivalent to completion of the eighth school grade.
AND
3. EXPERIENCE :
One year of experience in mopping and scrubbing floors, waxing and polishing floors and furniture, etc.

PROMOTIONAL – Departmental and interdepartmental promotional eligible lists will be established as a result of this examination. An appointment in any department may be made from either one of the above-established promotional lists as deemed appropriate by the appointing authority.
Candidates who pass the exam and are placed on the civil service list will be retained on the list for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years after the establishment of the Eligible List.
PREFERENCE FOR PHILADELPHIA RESIDENTS – Candidates who have maintained a bona fide residence in Philadelphia for at least one year prior to the date of the civil service examination shall have priority over all other persons receiving an identical test score. If you have maintained a bona fide residence in Philadelphia for at least one year immediately preceding January 4, 2023, you are eligible to claim residency preference.
Candidates who pass the exam and are placed on the civil service list will be retained on the list for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years after the establishment of the Eligible List.
