POSITION: Custodian

Floater (2nd Shift – 2:30 PM – 10:30 PM)

START DATE 7/1/22

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs routine building cleaning tasks; minor building/furniture repairs; does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine manual work requiring efficient performance of building cleaning and maintenance duties. A Custodian works under general supervision on routine recurring assignments, receiving instructions on each new or unusual assignment. The work is reviewed and inspected by the supervisor. A Custodian may supervise the work of one or more custodians or cleaners.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)

Sweeps, mops, waxes, strips, and refinishes floors;

Washes windows and polishes furniture;

Dusts woodwork, furniture, and other articles;

Collects paper and rubbish, mows lawns, cultivates trees and shrubs, and performs a variety of other grounds work;

Makes minor repairs to buildings, building equipment, and furniture;

Paints classrooms, hallways and other rooms in the building;

Delivers packages and messages;

Shovels snow and removes ice from sidewalks;

Does related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment. and ability to use them safely, economically and efficiently; ability to perform minor building repairs/trouble shooting as needed; general understanding of building mechanical systems; ability to make decisions and work with limited supervision; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; willingness to perform janitorial tasks; thoroughness; dependability; good moral character; good physical condition.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Person must have a high school diploma or GED, building cleaning and maintenance experience, ability to read and write, or any equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work.'
