GroundWork seeks an experienced, detail-oriented, hands-on Electrical Engineer, preferably with solar industry experience, to play a key role in designing and implementing meteorological measurement systems (MET stations) for utility-scale, solar power plants.

Position Overview

The selected candidate will play a key role in the assembly, configuration, installation support, and operation of advanced meteorological equipment for placement in utility-scale solar powered operating plants.

  • Liaise with project technical lead to gather project requirements and detailed design information.
  • Support the creation of system design packages and corresponding bill-of-materials to meet functional, performance, and operational requirements.
  • Performing software configurations for MET products unique to each project.
  • Perform technical reviews of system design packages providing feedback and guidance to fellow engineers.
  • Support those responsible for building, testing, and deploying designed systems by providing hands-on guidance and by writing detailed and accurate support documentation.
  • Assist engineering team with product development for new and legacy assets.
  • Provide cross functional support across engineering team.
  • Additional engineering tasks and support as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Engineering. A combination of a degree and additional experience will also be considered.
  • 3+ years’ experience in project or product engineering and support.
  • 2+ years’ experience in configuring and troubleshooting SCADA or Data Acquisition Systems (DAS).
  • Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Strong interest in understanding product assembly and operation.
  • Familiarity with IT systems, varying network configurations, and communication protocols
  • Requires strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to go deep into engineering concepts, as well as the ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google tools.

Major Pluses

  • Experience with solar or renewable energy production, meteorological measurement equipment (e.g., pyranometers, data loggers), and/or large-scale construction.
  • Experience supporting the deployment of advanced meteorological stations in commercial or utility scale applications.
  • Experience designing, assembling, installing or commissioning SCADA or DAS equipment.
