The Data Analyst is a member of the National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline) IT Team. The Hotline has a strong
national reputation as a direct service provider and has become a thought leader around intimate partner violence
prevention and intervention by working on collaborative projects, research, and policy advocacy to amplify and support
the needs of survivors. We are one of the largest collectors of real-time victim/survivor data.
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Technology, the Data Analyst works to analyze and interpret our data,
sometimes in conjunction with third party data, in order to identify trends, patterns and proper context. The Data
Analyst provides critical information that will help inform the strategies of our services and the larger domestic violence
field at a national, state, and regional level.
Compensation:
$78,000 annually

Essential Responsibilities/Duties
Data Analysis 65%:

  • Interpret the data of The Hotline (nationally, by state and regionally), and at times third parties, and

analyze the results using proven statistical methods to determine patterns, trends, and context.

  • Develop and implement a system for data analyses, using our current data collection systems, which

optimizes statistical significance of our data for use by applicable Hotline departments and external funders and
stakeholders.

  • Create visual models that depict trends and patterns regarding those we serve.
  • Analyze and synthesize accumulated data/information as need for reporting purposes.
  • Work with the IT team to identify new data collection and analysis opportunities and processes.
  • Assist with research, data mining and statistical analysis projects for external funders and stakeholders.
  • Respond to internal and external research and data requests in a timely manner, working independently

to provide data within context and in a manner appropriate for the desired audience.
Data Tracking and Integrity 25%:

  • Primary point of contact with data warehouse service to ensure accurate date ingestion and manage

data structure changes as needed.

  • Assist the IT team in maintaining a high level of data accuracy and integrity, ensuring all data elements

are properly calculated and communicated.

  • Contribute to benchmarking efforts to evaluate effectiveness of research recommendations and data

requests.

  • Ensure all data is managed with the highest level of sensitivity, maintain information based on the

policies and procedures of The Hotline.

  • Educate staff and external audiences on how best to interpret the requested data within context

provided.

  • Review The Hotline’s funder and federal reports to ensure accuracy of data and proper context.
  • Review, maintain and stay informed about current research resources, technologies, and tools.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation on all data management processes.

Other 10%:

  • May provide general support to IT team and work on special projects as needed.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned.

Job Requirements*

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • 2+ years’ data mining experience
  • 2+ years in a data analyst role
  • Experienced with SQL, R, Python, or other data-intensive scripting languages
  • Familiarity with AWS Redshift, Tableau, constructing effective SQL queries
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Customer Service - demonstrated ability to respond with urgency to the needs and requests of others,

internally and externally, and ensure a high degree of responsiveness and accuracy.

  • Demonstrated aptitude for analyzing and interpreting data and for synthesizing complex information

from multiple sources.

diffusing situations before conflicts arise, resolving conflicts directly and actively promoting and gaining
cooperation from others.

  • Willingness and ability to adjust to changing conditions or priorities.

with staff and colleagues.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Must maintain the standards of confidentiality related to agency information, funders, and other

constituents.

  • Must have emotional and physical stamina to tolerate prolonged sitting or standing and to deal with a

variety of stressful situations, including responses to complaints and internal and external interactions.

  • Availability to travel overnight occasionally.
  • Works in a normal office environment, except while traveling, with minimum exposure to dust, noise, or

temperature extremes. Requires bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds, with or
without accommodations.
