Job Title: Data Center Operations Support engineer

Location: Columbus, OH (Onsite Position)

Duration: Full Time Permanent Position

flexible for 24 x 7 support

a. Ticket Resolution

- Tier I and Tier II Datacenter support requests

- Racking and cabling requests

- Hands-on incident troubleshooting requests

- Datacenter consulting task requests

- Device removal request tasks

- Capacity and power planning request tasks

- Environmental and temperature request tasks

b. Datacenter Racking/cabling requests

- Device racking inside datacenters

- Device cabling inside datacenters

- Clean up of unused cables in rack, under floor and overhead as needed for all supported sites

- Weekend and after hours work to accommodate outages and project demands

c. Retirement and disposal of datacenter devices

- Removal of equipment from racks/cabinets

- Disposal of equipment

d. Datacenter equipment re-locations/moves

- Equipment moves between datacenter sites

- Datacenter accessory moves between sites

e. Management of datacenter cabling and accessory inventory

- Ordering and inventory of fiber cabling

- Ordering and inventory of copper cabling

- Tracking of SFP inventory and communicate to proper teams on low inventory

- Ordering and inventory of datacenter support equipment for racks and power accessories

f. Future state datacenter planning and floor design

- Create and maintain documentation for rack and elevation views for each rack inside the data hall

- Patch port and switch port capacity documentation and planning – including floor and overhead boxes

- Physical planning of rack space and floor space for current state and allow for proper future growth

- Participate in meetings with other teams for new hardware requirements to understand network capacity and power requirements

- Tracking of power usage in each cabinet and each row to ensure proper power usage is maintained in each area

- Coordinating power whip installations with building maintenance team

- Maintain CMDB records for all assets inside the data hall

g. Project engagement for support and planning for major installations

- Attend project meetings

- Capacity planning for space, power and network

h. NERC-CIP and Vendor escorting

- NERC/CIP – Line of site

- Physical walking around with person

- NERC-CIP Vendor training

- NERC-CIP hardware disposal with on-site destruction of hardware

- NERC-CIP hardware installation and on-site troubleshooting

i. Physical Server support

- If a server can’t remotely be administered, help with physical reboot, bios changes, hot swap, add memory dimm, replace parts, help configure servers to bring on line - (this is not an all-inclusive list and additional physical server tasks may be asked…)

1. Limited to onsite GDC, NADC, IR, 1RP

- Checking equipment cabling, lights, locations of physical equipment in the data hall

- Initial server configuration as requested including IP configurations and basic setup scripts

j. Building Maintenance System (BMS) Monitoring

- 2nd set of eyes for workplace services. Help with monitoring building related alarms.

- Environmental temperature and humidity monitoring

k. Shipping/Receiving Tracking

- Checking for packages that have arrived and storage into correct locations

- Validate or request ServiceNow ticket for upcoming installation work

- Prepare devices for entry into ServiceNow by adding asset tags and device info into asset database

- Monitoring/Looking for received equipment on the dock and in the staging area.

- Enter shipment into to shipping/receiving log

- Boxing and packaging of devices needing shipped to other locations

- Schedule pickup or deliver device to shipping company for shipment

- Store appropriate packaging and equipment to ensure safety precautions are met

l. Regular datacenter walkthroughs for identifying differing sounds, smells, and alarm lights.

- Proactive walk around to identify issues and anything is out of ordinary

- Daily walkthrough’s each shift

- Report out for safety or tripping hazards identified

m. Training and enforcement of datacenter standards

- Enforcement of standards for datacenter policies with visitors

- Training of visitors on policies and provide corrective actions to policy violations

- Facilitate NERC-CIP training for external partners requiring physical NERC-CIP access

- Participate in continuous improvement idea generating sessions to ensure all standards are being met and introduce new standards for approval as needed

- Participate in all safety training required for working inside datacenters

- Attend roadshow meetings with outside teams to present current policies and provide refresher trainings

n. Assist with bundle moves between data centers

- Participation during bundle move as needed for on-site hands on support

- Participate In pre-bundle move exercise planning sessions

o. Annual Black start and Emergency support

- Active participant in verifying everything is still functioning as normal

- Walkthrough’s of data hall while exercise is occurring, validating load is stable after each step both visually and physically

- NADC & GDC Emergency Response training and drills

p. Non-Ticketed tasks (Roughly 20% of total work is non-ticketed)

- Shipping/Receiving,

- Data Center walk through

- BMS/environmental monitoring

- Participation in bundle moves

- Datacenter team standards documentation creation and review

- Participation in project and consultation meetings

- Datacenter asset database verifications

- Coordination with facilities management for building maintenance

- Data hall and dock/storage areas for periodic clean up

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
