The Database Administrator position will work as a member of the system services team and will work to ensure the uptime and reliability of the database environment for Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI).

Some of what you will do in this role:

  • Ensure the successful and continued operation of the company’s enterprise systems and services.
  • Deploy and manage physical and virtual server environments.
  • Monitor and respond to systems outages as required.
  • Respond to support calls in an on-call rotation.
  • Work as a member of a project team to deliver new business systems.
  • Complete status, systems utilization, and other required reports for management.
  • Work to maintain standardized methods and processes across all properties.

What you need for this role:

  • Ability to become licensed in various racing/gaming jurisdictions in which the organization operates.
  • Ability to periodically “remotely” support the environment on an ad-hoc on-call basis.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.
  • Must have two+ years supporting the following:
    • Providing database administration and support for SQL Servers at all CDI properties (SQL 2008 thru 2019).
    • Building and monitoring database backup schedules and retention policies.
    • Configuring and supporting SQL Server replication between properties.
    • Monitoring SQL Server counters and troubleshooting performance issues related to the following: (low memory, high CPU utilization, index fragmentation, missing indexes, disk contention, blocking sessions, and queries).
    • Developing and supporting SQL jobs and SSIS packages for data imports, exports, and transformations.
    • Constructing new reports and supporting SQL Server Reporting Services environment.
    • Verifying database backups (transaction log backups for databases in FULL recovery mode).
    • Verifying replication agents are working.
    • Verifying SQL Server jobs and SSIS packages.
    • Ensuring corporate security standards have been applied and maintained.

It's the icing on the cake if you have these:

  • Familiarity with SQL Encryption (at rest and in transit).
  • Bachelor Degree in Information Science, Engineering, or other closely related discipline; or equivalent experience coupled with industry certifications.
  • Experience with C# / .Net.
  • Experience with Windows systems administration and support.
