Responsibilities
  • The Dean of Students is accountable to the Head of School/Principal and is in charge of assisting in (1) implementing the mission, vision, and philosophy of the school, (2) maintaining the academic integrity of the school, (3) leading the school's efforts to create a positive, structured, disciplined school culture, (4) supervising the students, (5) coordinating academic programs and scheduling, and ensuring organizational compliance
  • The Dean of Students must have high moral character and embrace the virtues Monroe Charter Academy
  • In order to implement the mission, vision, and philosophy of the school the Dean of Students is expected to:
  • Facilitate an understanding of classical education to faculty, staff, parents, and students
  • Adopt and promote the vision of Monroe Charter Academy
  • Represent the School to the community in a way that upholds the School’s mission, vision, and core values
  • Articulate the ideals of classical education to the school and larger community
  • Ensure all extra-curricular activities uphold the mission, vision, and philosophy of the school
  • Keep informed of the current state of education in the nation seeking out best practices as they align with Monroe Charter Academy's mission and core values
  • Assist in the development of school improvement plan
  • Manage the school improvement plan
  • In order to maintain the academic integrity of the school, the Dean of Students must know and utilize the talents of teachers, see that the curriculum is implemented, and set the intellectual tone of the School
  • Ensure that the curriculum and its delivery are academically sound and consistent with the core values
  • Ensure that teaching methods and contents are consistent with the philosophy of the Academy
  • Cultivate and reward excellence in teaching
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of spiritual development throughout the School
  • Oversee students' academic progress
  • Stress the importance of education to students and families
  • Recognize academic excellence in students
  • Monitor standardized test scores, looking for trends or patterns in outcomes, regularly reporting to the Head of School /Principal
  • Monitor fine arts program alignment to strategic growth plan (as projected by Head of School/Principal)
  • School and faculty management consists in providing direction to and evaluation of students, faculty, and staff
  • Recommend new faculty and staff positions to the Administrative team
  • Work alongside the Academic Dean to evaluate personnel performance
  • Motivate and unify faculty and staff in a non-threatening environment
  • Foster collegiality among faculty and staff
  • Recruit quality teaching staff
  • Maintain an open office for the counseling of teachers and staff as they deal with difficult students, public relations, parent issues, career enhancement, and other professional and personal issues
  • Work closely with parent groups and committees
  • Advise the Head of School/Principal regarding the management of physical resources
  • Recommend corrective action to address recognized problems
  • Facilitate communication among faculty, staff, parents, and students
  • Ensure the professionalism of the faculty and staff
  • Make recommendations for beneficial changes in Administrative policy, including the Faculty/Staff Handbook and Student/Parent Handbook
  • Inform Administration staff of class offerings and teacher schedules
  • With the help of faculty and staff and under the direction of the Head of School/Principal, the Dean of Students is to develop a school culture that is both enjoyable and conducive to learning
  • Ensure the non-academic operations of the school including student life, school environment, and athletics fit with the vision, mission, and core values of the school
  • Monitor procedures to ensure the safety of students and report concerns to the Administrative team
  • Resolve, correct and mediate discipline (Transitional Kindergarten through 12th grade) issues with students and parents
  • Prepare reports concerning disciplinary actions to appraise the Head of School/Principal within 24 hours of decisions


Qualifications


  • Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision or a related educational field and have at least three years successful experience in education with a firm grasp of (K-12) curriculum, principles, and practices
  • Substantial classroom teaching and administrative/leadership role experience
  • Management/supervision/leadership experience
  • The ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively
  • A commitment to and advanced knowledge of key principles of classical education
  • Ability to oversee a classically based curriculum
  • Monroe, NC 28110: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
