The Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences is responsible for all academic operations and educational activities in the College environment. The Dean serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the College (CAO), is a member of the Chancellors College Cabinet, and is an ex officio member of the Trinity College Faculty Senate.


The Dean functions to fulfill the Vision, Mission, and Values of Trinity College in accordance with the rules and regulations of all appropriate external governing/regulatory agencies and under the policies and procedures of the College. The Dean is responsible for providing leadership for all aspects of the educational environment of the College as it relates to both faculty and students. The Dean functions within the FOCUS values stated in the Mission documents of UnityPoint Health-Trinity and guides adherence to these values by faculty and students.


The Dean is responsible for maintaining, and in the case of new program development, gaining high quality, accredited nursing and health sciences education programs whose graduates are competent, sought after, and contribute to helping meet the health care needs of the local and global community.

Responsibilities:

Key Accountability – Quality Educational Outcomes

  • Operationalizes policies and procedures approved by the College Governing Board in a manner that reflects the mission of the College.
  • Maintains oversight of operations relative to academic aspects of Trinity College to assure the attainment of strategic goals and objectives.
  • Guides and evaluates faculty accomplishments in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Supports curriculum development in cooperation with respective Program Coordinators and faculty.
  • Leads regional accreditation and professional programmatic accreditation efforts and processes.
  • Maintains oversight of UnityPoint – Trinity/Trinity College library. Maintains appropriate collection of holdings to meet the needs of Trinity College students, faculty, and staff.

Key Accountability – Strategic Alignment

  • Leads in short and long range strategic planning with development of operational plans to effect goal achievement.
  • Serves as liaison and ambassador for the College within the community, Alumni Association, other institutions of higher learning, and with other key constituents.
  • Pursues innovative opportunities for collaboration with practice partners and other external stakeholders.
  • Engages in integrated planning process with College Chancellor and Governing Board.
  • Facilitates collection, retrieval, analysis, presentation, and secure storage of data related to academic outcomes.

Key Accountability – Fiscal Stewardship

  • Develops annual academic budgets and new/developing program budgets.
  • Develops annual library budget.
  • Monitors respective departmental operating budgets.
  • Participates in preparation of monthly financial analysis and variance reports, including plans of correction, if necessary.
  • Determines faculty workload assignments within established workload policy.

Basic Trinity College of Nursing & Health Sciences - UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA, FERPA, TITLE IX, and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding higher education and healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of College, hospital, and department compliance requirements commensurate with position (Title IV, Title IX, Campus Violence). Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of supervisor. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
  • Supports vision, mission, and values of Trinity College.

Education:


Doctoral degree in nursing/health sciences/higher education administration

Doctoral degree in nursing/health sciences/higher education administration AND Master’s degree in nursing; two years of experience supervising an educational unit


Experience:


Current experience in education administration. Supervisory experience within an academic environment. Experience teaching at the baccalaureate level.


Two years of experience in education administration. Experience working within a faculty senate and collaborative governance model. Experience teaching at the graduate level


License(s)/Certification(s):


N/A


Licensure as a professional registered nurse in the state of Illinois.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • Write, read, comprehend, and speak fluent English
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to conduct or assist with multiple projects simultaneously
  • Competent with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Student and customer-focused


Other:


  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities or to vendor locations. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental, or own vehicle.
