Roles & Responsibilities:

Provides clinical and administrative support by assisting dentist with procedures and patient coordination. Develops and implements systems to improve service delivery and daily management of work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Answers phones, and keeps records as necessary.
2. Greets and prepares patients for the dentist’s examination.
3. Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in preparation for procedures using proper sterilization techniques established by infection control policies.
4. Performs chair-side duties and four handed dentistry.
5. Operates X-ray machines and develops X-rays.
6. Mixes compounds for cleaning or filling teeth.
7. Assists in coordinating patients including, but not limited to; confirming appointments, confirming surgeries, ensuring that all paperwork is completed and scanned into Dentrix.
8. Inventories, orders or re-stocks departmental supplies.
9. Communicate with appropriate staff regarding patient’s arrival, and ensure that patient’s record is available for the dentist.
10. Review status of waiting room on a routine basis and ensure that patients are kept advised of wait times.
11. May initiate reminder phones calls for next day appointments.
12. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

Education:
High School graduate/GED.

Previous experience as a dental assistant in private practice or hospital-based practice needed

Understands fundamentals of central sterilization

Familiar with dentrix EMR

Familiar with taking dental radiographs

Bilingual candidates desired.
Excellent oral communication skills
Excellent customer service skills
Flexibility regarding assignments and ability to manage multiple reporting lines
Strong work ethic and flexibility in schedule

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $23.01 - $23.54 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
