Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Cleans calculus/plaque deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth supra & subgingivally.
- Feels and visually examines gums for sores and signs of disease, performs and documents intraoral exams for signs of oral cancer or other serious disease conditions .
- Examines gums to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.
- Applies fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
- Charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.
- Exposes x-rays.
- Makes impressions for study casts.
- Removes sutures and dressings.
- Administers local anesthetic agents.
- Places and removes rubber dams, matrices, and temporary restorations.
- Removes excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth.
- Provides clinical services and health education to improve and maintain oral health of all Patients.
- Conducts dental health clinics (and school based clinics) for community groups to augment services of dentists.
- Place cemotheraputic agent to maintain periodontal health.
- Assist dentists with any or all procedures as requested.
- Maintain federal and state equipment inspection and licensure requirements, records, and preventive maintenance records.
- Comply with the UNHS Policies regarding Confidentiality, with the Privacy Act, with Health Insurance Portability Act.
- Follow all personnel policies and procedures of UNHS and support the administration team in providing quality healthcare in a financially viable process.
- Maintain patient and business confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain Basic Life support certification at all times.
- Any other tasks, projects, or duties that are requested by the Employee’s supervisor or other UNHS management or administration that is at all reasonably related to UNHS and/or the Employee’s employment with UNHS.
- Must be a licensed Dental Hygienist in the State of Utah, or able to transfer licensure to Utah.
- Ability to communicate in Navajo is preferred, but not required.
- Must be able to work well with others

The immunizations/vaccinations include but not limited to following:
- MMR (Measles Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of two MMR vaccines (OR) Documentation of MMR titers.
- Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a declination that may be signed upon arrival.
- Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing, if previously negative (OR) Proof of positive PPD skin test with the most recent chest x-ray and treatment history.
- Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
- Varicella titers, history of varicella or varicella immunization series.
- Influenza vaccine for the current year.
- COVID-19 vaccine
- Any other vaccinations as requested.
