The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. Salary
The salary range for this classification is $6,250 to $20,063 per month. The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $14,584 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position Information
The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Board Operations, Office of the Board of Trustees to assume responsibility for high-level executive support to the Office of the Board of Trustees, Board Chair, Board Secretary, the Chancellor, the Executive Vice Chancellors and Vice Chancellors, and other senior system leaders to facilitate and coordinate the strategic operations of the Board.
This position is responsible for managing and executing special projects under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff, Office of the Board of Trustees, and for monitoring and ensuring effective and timely completion of all projects and Board requests. In addition, this position is responsible for supervising and managing the Office of the Board of Trustees’ administrative staff and, at the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff, Office of the Board of Trustees, managing all office operations and programs.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff, Office of the Board of Trustees, the Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Board Operations, Office of the Board of Trustees will:
- As directed by Associate Vice Chancellor & Chief of Staff, coordinate and manage all aspects of the Board of Trustees meetings and its committees in compliance with law and policy. Includes strategic development of meeting agendas, annual meeting schedule and managing all Board material preparation, distribution, legal postings, archiving, and ensuring the committee meeting minutes are completed and in the correct format.
- Lead and execute special projects at the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff to the Board of Trustees.
- Serve as principal point of contact to advise and assist CSU staff members and external parties regarding Trustee protocol, policies, and procedures. And other duties as assigned.
- Coordinate and manage strategic projects as directed by the Associate Vice Chancellor & Chief of Staff, including planning, managing, and coordinating ongoing board orientation and training, mentorship program, and online continuing education program.
- As directed by the Associate Vice Chancellor & Chief of Staff, this position will support board initiatives and special committees and coordinate and oversee speech writing or other writing assignments from the Board with Executive Writing.
- As directed by the Associate Vice Chancellor & Chief of Staff, supervise administrative staff and manage operations including but not limited to budget, travel, records management, communications, Trustee master calendar, and online web portal content.
- As directed by the Associate Vice Chancellor & Chief of Staff, manage Trustee support for campus visits and other travel, and periodically manage board events.
- Travel to CSU campuses and other locations as required for the management and support of the Trustees.
- Serve as the official filing officer of the Fair Political Practices Commission for CSU Trustees and Presidents Annual Conflict of Interest Report.
- Serve as the Conflict of Interest (COI) Officer for CSU Trustees and Presidents to ensure compliance with assuming and leaving office policies and legally mandated Conflict of Interest trainings.
- Perform other related duties as requested and deemed appropriate in support of the Board and Chancellor to accomplish assigned responsibilities and operations of the office. And other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
This position requires:
- Bachelor's Degree required or equivalent years of experience to include a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible related experience working with high-level administrators, executives, and/or elected officials with the demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of management.
- Demonstrated leadership and team building skills, with the ability to develop and supervise staff.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and direct multiple projects and activities with competing deadlines.
- Ability to set timelines and priorities; take initiative and exercise sound judgement in a senior-level administrative role within a dynamic fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters and perform a wide range of duties that require tact, sensitivity, independent judgment, diplomacy, flexibility, and discretion.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with keen attention to detail, including the ability to initiate, compose, and prepare clear, concise, accurate reports and correspondence.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to research, evaluate, and analyze complex information/assignments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituents.
- Strong ability to learn, interpret and apply organizational policies and procedures with keen focus on priorities, strategies and vision.
- Experience managing budgets and overseeing travel arrangements.
- Must possess excellent English skills and high degree of proficiency with PC and/or Macintosh computers; including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; Adobe Acrobat; FileMaker Pro; SharePoint and experience updating and maintaining web pages.
Preferred Qualifications-
- Experience working in a higher education environment is highly preferred.
- Master’s degree is highly preferred.
- Knowledge or experience with the Conflict of Interest (COI) process is highly preferred.
