Role Description & Details

Shawmut Services is seeking a highly motivated candidate for the role of Deputy Operations Director for a canvassing-focused voter engagement program in Los Angeles. The Deputy Operations Director will be supervised by the State Operations Director and Shawmut leadership, and will work with our national operations team to provide support in the management of program operations and human resources needs, including interviewing and hiring employees, processing new hires, providing logistical support, managing physical office locations, and other duties as assigned.

This Deputy Operations Director role is a full-time, salaried position that begins immediately and ends on November 15th. She/he/they must be true self-starters, problem solvers, and able to effectively work with and manage a variety of different personalities.

The Deputy Operations Director role requires demanding work hours on behalf of a principled cause, and this is an in-person position and you will be required to work in a physical office. Shawmut provides comprehensive job training for new hires and we strongly encourage potential applicants who have the qualified skills for the position to apply, regardless of prior campaign experience.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in overseeing the daily and long-term operations of the program in multiple offices throughout the City of Los Angeles;
  • Work with the Operations Director and national operations team to implement robust human resources and operations processes for the program;
  • Work with the national operations team to hire, process, and onboard all members of the program staff;
  • Manage program payroll records; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills, Experience or Qualifications

  • Strong management, communication and organizational skills;
  • Proven ability to motivate and manage a diverse group of staff;
  • Ability to work a demanding schedule, often including seven-day weeks for the duration of the program;
  • Working ability to navigate and use Google Workspace and Microsoft Office;
  • Campaign and/or advocacy experience is not necessary, but preferred;
  • A valid driver's license, reliable transportation (fuel and travel costs are reimbursed).
