Design Drafter

Stratford Homes has been the leader of highly customized modular homes since 1973 and seeks a self-motivated individual to fill a critical role on our team. The Design Drafter will produce clear and technically accurate drawings based on design specifications using both AutoCAD and Revit software at a pace sufficient to meet our sales and production objectives.

Essential Functions

• Design, from scratch, full sets of construction documents for custom homes.
• Drawings include floorplans, exterior elevations, foundations, interior elevations, cross sections, electrical schematics, plumbing schematics, schedules and casework, along with custom details as needed for custom components.
• Work closely with all departments and vendors and builders who use drawings to generate take-offs and material orders.
• Self-check own work for completeness, accuracy, compliance to standards, fits and stack-ups.
• Ensure drawings and details are to proper building codes.
• Work from drawings, sketches or scanned images, customer drawings, or government drawings or specifications.
• Use the accepted drawing standards as guidelines.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

• The ideal candidate must have above-average knowledge of architectural design and will be responsible for preparing detailed drawings or modifications using REVIT software.
• Will create and make revisions to drawings based on builder requests and customer requirements.
• There will be interaction with the builders to ensure drawings are correct and to collaborate on any issues that arise, as well as help suggest creative solutions to their challenges.
• Drafters will create detailed drawing which are used by the builder network as sales presentation tools and onsite bid documents.
• Blueprints are converted to “shop drawings” and used during manufacturing products and building modular buildings.
• The technical drawings incorporate the input from the customers, builders and sales department and specify accurate dimensions, building code requirements, construction materials, and production methods.
• Collect construction data and incorporate this information into drawings consulting with the sales department and builder network.
• Process detailed construction information, understand building codes, and complete construction calculations for the materials to be used.
• Evaluate his/her own work, document trends and create/utilize checklists to enhance accuracy on future projects.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, scheduled for 8-hour workdays, Monday through Friday.

Required Education and Experience

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in Architectural Drafting/Design or related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD/ REVIT software applications

Preferred Education and Experience

• Associate’s degree or Technical degree in Architectural Drafting/Design or related field.
• Experience in drafting and design of residential single and multi-family construction focusing on new home design with a complete understanding of construction techniques.
• Experience working on construction documents.
• Experience in construction.
