What you bring to the table
The Beck Group (Beck) is seeking a Design Technology Manager (DTM) to lead, equip and support [regional] project teams in the successful implementation of our integrated BIM strategies and workflows. The core responsibilities of this role will be learning and promoting Beck’s BIM Practices, executing our BIM Healthy Start workflows, be responsible for managing overall model health [for a specific regional office], and equipping, training, and providing mentorship for design and project staff. The DTM will collaborate with our Virtual Building Group, Project BIM Leads, and Design Technology Coordinators and Specialists. The DTM’s primary technical focus will be on Revit, its extensions, and associated applications. Experience with content management, architectural visualization (rendering, VR, AR, 3D printing), and project coordination workflows is expected. Knowledge of computational design solutions, energy modeling, reality capture and computer hardware will be considered in the evaluation of the candidate.

This position will provide you with the opportunity to utilize your talents and experience as you mentor and collaborate with our design project teams and [Virtual Building Group (VBG)] to successfully deliver BIM integrated projects. This role will also allow you to make use of your technological expertise and skills to serve the needs of our people and projects, while contributing to the advancement of Beck’s Design Technology capabilities.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Learn Beck’s BIM Best Practices while collaborating with our VBG to promote our BIM standards and encourage the growth of our Design Technology brand and culture.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve a wide variety of Design Technology (software/hardware) related modeling and production issues as they arise.
  • Modify and create project-specific BIM Content (Revit Families)
  • Contribute to the management and organization of Revit (and related) content libraries.
  • Initiate new projects, including the setup of Revit models.
  • Work with project teams to develop BIM Execution Plans.
  • [Work directly on Architectural / Integrated Projects]
  • Manage Revit models through all project phases, maintaining model health and performing Model Audits.
  • Assist with consultant BIM coordination – clash detection and issue resolution.
  • Provide individual, group, and project team training and onboarding according to Beck’s BIM best practices.
  • Contribute to (BIM) learning and knowledge-transfer opportunities for new and existing team members.
  • Support architectural visualization (rendering, VR, AR, 3D printing).
  • Conduct research into potential future BIM processes, emerging technologies, related software and define use-cases for implementation on projects.
  • Collaborate with VBG and Design Technology team members to improve, innovate and advance Beck’s BIM and Design Technology vision, values, and goals.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Expertise in advanced modeling (Revit) and working on large and complex projects.
  • (3) years of BIM leadership and (4) years of AEC experience or a minimum of (7) years of industry BIM practices or management experience.
  • (4) year degree in architecture, engineering, construction, or similar. Applicants with (2) year degree or no college experience may be considered given certifications or appropriate work experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Experience teaching, mentoring, and training professionals in industry processes and technologies.
  • Ability to manage a small team of Design Technology Specialists and Coordinators.
  • Knowledge of the following is valuable but not required:
    • Modeling and visualization platforms – AutoCAD, Civil3D, Enscape, Rhino, SketchUp
    • Coordination platform or tools – Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, ReCap, and Plannerly
    • Computational design or programming platforms – Dynamo, Grasshopper, Python

Physical Demands:
Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity equipment; occasionally ascends/descends ladders and stairs; constantly works in outdoor weather conditions; frequently moves equipment up to 50Ibs to various locations on site; constantly communicates with subcontractors, vendors, and other members of project team; constantly moving around job site; ability to adhere to consistent and timely attendance.
