Desktop Engineer

The Desktop Engineer is responsible for the daily support and tasks related to desktop computer and peripheral hardware, software technologies, asset management and the help desk tracking system. In addition, this position will also work closely with the Infrastructure Team in providing support to the computer network and telecom systems.

Schedule: Regular business hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday, on-call and after hours responsibilities may be required on a rotating basis.

Location: must be local to Chicago, can work remotely 3 days a week, but will need to visit Downtown Chicago and Mount Prospect locations two days a week.

Salary: $55,000.00 to $75,000.00 annually

DAY TO DAY

  • Provide support for users with desktop, laptop, password, and application issues.
  • Respond to requests for issues that may require technical assistance to be provided by phone, email and or/using a help desk management system.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and connectivity issues.
  • Provide Active Directory administration including, but not limited to, user management, password reset, and group policy creation and deployment
  • Analyze user roles and permissions to validate access to systems, files and resources is setup correctly and ensuring a more RBAC configuration.
  • Forward thinking analysis of environment and active in providing improvement suggestions. Improve the desktop computing environment and processes by proactively researching, testing and recommending enhancements and efficiencies.
  • Create, test and standardize desktop application deployments through company’s software tools across physical and VDI environment. Knowledge of desktop imaging solutions such as WDS, CloneZilla or Ghost is high encouraged. Responsible for hardware and image build, configuration, setup and deployment of workstations and thin clients ensuring all users are able to complete their assigned job functions
  • Assist System Administration team with workstation patching of Windows operating systems and third-party applications using solutions such as PDQ and Intune.

WHAT YOU MUST POSSESS

Must Have:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a role of Systems Administration, Help Desk, or Service Desk environment, supporting at least 500 users
  • Experience with Windows 10, PC imaging and hardware deployment, group policy, workstation setup, remote assistance, Microsoft Active Directory and DNS
  • 1 or more years of experience with Windows 2012R2 or above
  • Experience with Active Directory: DNS/DHCP in a multi-site environment, Creation and administration of group policies, and Role Based Access Control
  • Experience with VMware: Horizon VDI, VDEM and AppVolume
  • Knowledge of Security Standards such as: CIS/DISA, PCI-DSS, SOC, HIPAA
  • Experience with updating and maintaining gold images for VDI environments
  • Experience with Windows 10 and 11 and creating new Group Policies to ensure compliance with CIS and NIST standards.
  • Proficient with vulnerability management platforms such as Qualys and Tenable. Must be able to perform scans for vulnerabilities and compliance.

Nice To Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or other higher education preferred
  • CompTIAA+ and/or Server+ Certification preferred

  • Able tocustomize the conversation by articulating clear instructions and troubleshooting information appropriate to the employee’s level of technical knowledge. Ensures understanding so that all staff is able to perform their job functions.
