In your role as the Developer - Learning Technologies, you will lead projects independently and collaborate on specific portions of large projects, depending on the project’s size and complexity. You may work on any phase, including training needs assessment, design and development, item testing and release, and/or learning evaluation. You may also serve as the training project manager. You will work closely with business unit sponsors and leadership, subject matter experts, learners, training facilitators, cross-functional project teams, and other Talent Development and HR staff throughout a project. As the
Developer – Learning Technologies, you will create and maintain training that supports the learning and development needs of TDS employees. You will work with a variety of media (e.g. text, audio, animation, video, interaction) to produce and maintain self-paced, online learning on a variety of subjects. Items produced may be used as part of a blended training program, or may be taken as stand-alone training.

You will work closely with business unit sponsors and leadership, subject matter experts, learners, training facilitators, cross-functional project teams, and other Talent Development and HR staff throughout a project. You can expect to work on multiple projects, often in different stages of completion, simultaneously.
Learning Creation
- Works with stakeholders to document learning objectives and content outlines. Translates learning objectives and content outlines into technical storyboards, content flows, and audio scripts.
- Designs and develops engaging, interactive learning items in a variety of media. Responsibilities typically include visual design, content generation, audio recording, animation, audio/video editing, filming/recording, and image and music selection. Items created may include eLearning, videos, practice activities, assessments/quizzes, and job aids. Follows industry standards for usability, SCORM/AICC compliance, and LMS compatibility.
- Designs custom graphics, illustrations, and animations to be included in learning items.
- Performs testing, proofreading, and QA on learning items. Transfers finalized items to access locations for learners.
- Works with project stakeholders, LMS administrator, and business unit leadership to release/implement learning items.
Learning Maintenance
- Conducts periodic content and technical reviews for assigned learning items.
- Creates an action plan for the item based on the review and completes the work or hands off the project to a Sr. Developer–Learning Technologies depending on size and complexity.
Project Management
- Defines and manages project scope and timelines with input from project sponsors and stakeholders.
- Effectively communicates with project team members and business unit leadership. Provides reports and status updates on project progress.
- Holds project resources accountable for action items and due dates. Completes deliverables and projects on time.
Team Operations Support
- Contributes to the development and maintenance of standard teamwork processes.
- Contributes to the maintenance of the team’s hardware and software toolkit as well as asset and template libraries. Designs and creates reusable templates and user interfaces.
- Serves as a design collaborator, reviewer, proofer and/or tester for other Talent Development team members.
- Regularly scans the learning & development environment and marketplace for best practices, new technologies, and innovations. Recommends and implements new ideas.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years professional work experience.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience developing eLearning courses, animations, motion graphics, multimedia, interactive web pages or other technology-driven assets in Training, Design, Advertising, or Video Production roles.
- 1+ years’ experience as a project leader (solo or leading other team members) with full accountability for project deliverables and results.
- Intermediate-level experience with capture, authoring, and editing tools (e.g. Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, Adobe Audition and other Adobe Creative Cloud applications or similar tools).
- Working knowledge of adult learning and development concepts (e.g. adult learning theory, training design principles, media and delivery channel selection, skill assessments, learning evaluation). Knowledge of performance consulting, gamification, branching scenarios, instructor-led training design, and/or curriculum/training plan design is a bonus.
- Visual design, user interface design and accessibility standards skills.
- Enthusiasm and initiative to try new was of delivery learning to a variety of learners.
- Experience building strong relationships and collaborating at all levels of an organization. Includes both on-site and geographically dispersed resources.
- Time Management and organizational skills, including ability to juggle multiple projects with simultaneous timelines. Ability to balance focused, solo development time with meetings and other obligations.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, including proofreading and technology testing skills.
