JOB TITLE: DEVELOPMENT SERVICES COORDINATOR DEPARTMENT: PLANNING & URBAN DEVELOPMENT

DEFINITION/DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF JOB:

Performs and is responsible for technical and administrative duties to provide information and direction to the public on processes and requirements associated with land use, zoning regulations, commercial and residential development requirements, and Building Inspections, and otherwise relieves officials of clerical work and minor administrative business detail by performing the following duties.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Under the direction of the Planning and Urban Development Director or designee, theDevelopment Services Coordinator guides developers, business owners, and or individuals through the City's commercial and large-scale residential development requirements. TheDevelopment Services Coordinator is responsible for scheduling appointments with applicants regarding building and development projects and is expected to be the first line of contact with both internal and external customers on various land use, planning, building and/or development issues. Incumbents may receive only occasional instructions as new, unusual, or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the departments/PUD divisions involved in development.

  • Board and Commission meetings: coordinates and arranges meetings, prepares agendas, reserves and prepares facilities and records, and transcribes minutes of meetings.
  • Distributes projects that require plan review, often on a recurring schedule, including preliminary development plans, zoning case notices, annexation reports, and subdivision or development construction documents and plans.
  • Organizes and maintains files and plan archive system; files, retrieves, and copies records.
  • Assists Planners in the reviewing and processing of Planning and Z oning Cases and coordinates with Building Inspections on processing Building Permits.
  • Answers the telephone to provide information about requirements, deadlines, and development procedures; interprets code references and applies information; composes and types routine correspondence; prepares outgoing mail and notices.
  • Assists members of the public related to development-related permits and Planning and

Zoning applications.

  • Schedules appointments with applicants to discuss development projects.
  • Reviews applications for completeness and coordinates routing of various plans through the City's plan review process.
  • Corresponds with City Officials/Department Heads to acquire information and guidance needed to assist potential/current/future developers.
  • Coordinates Development Team meetings hosted by P&Z Office with other departments to address development projects and related issues.
  • Works with the Senior Planner to coordinate Site Plan meetings and collect required documents; distributes information to departments as needed and responses to developers' questions.
  • Drafts amendments or revisions to the Monroe Zoning Code.
  • Proofreads documents and marks for correction any grammatical or typographical errors.
  • Drafts all processing and procedural documents for Planning and Zoning.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This job has direct personnel supervisory responsibilities over the Zoning Technician.
  • Supervision of the Administration of the Zoning Process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree or experience in Planning and Zoning, development services, construction management, and related fields.
  • Required: Associate Degree; one-year related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Able to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals.
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Demonstrates Customer Service skills.
  • Performs/presents efficiently in front of crowds.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:

  • Must possess a valid State of Louisiana driver's license.
  • The successful candidate must be willing to seek and complete training in the related job field, as needed, to improve the department's services.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
