Job Summary
The Clinical Dietitian implements quality, cost-effective, out-come oriented clinical nutrition care in accordance with hospital policies and accreditation standards. Provides nutrition services to patients in all age groups including pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Supports the values and standards of Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics through responsible and effective work performance Provides outpatient nutrition and diabetes consultation services. Salary Range: $29.21/hr to $43.42/hr DOE Skagit Regional Health offers a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, 457b/401a (retirement), long term disability, sick time, and paid time off to all employees working 20 or more hours per week.

Essential Functions
Section 1 – Knowledge and Standards of Performance Follows the National Standards for Diabetic Self-Management Education to improve healthcare outcomes, structure standards, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates ability to assess, develop, maintain and monitor outcomes of the Diabetic Self-Management Program. Demonstrates ability to develop and monitor a patient’s individualized assessment, the development of their education plan, reassessment and selection of appropriate materials and resources for the patient to utilize. Demonstrate proficiency in nutrition screening, moderate/high nutrition risk assessment, effective education counseling skills. Demonstrate knowledge of nutrition care of patients in a variety of age groups, including pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Ability to interact and communicate clearly, concisely and effectively with medical staff, multi disciplinary staff and all customers. Ability to organize time effectively. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to identify issues/problems and formulate recommended solutions. Ability to physically perform the essential functions of the position. Section 2 – Processes and Procedures Medical Nutrition Therapy. Conduct nutrition screening, identify nutrition risk level and indicated results in the chart. Assess patients at moderate and high nutrition risk. Monitor oral intake, nutrition parameters, drug/nutrient interactions and recommend appropriate medical nutrition therapy. Determine education needs of a patient and identify any barriers to learning. Provide nutrition education to the patient/caregiver to facilitate behavioral changes and improve nutrition status. Education should be given in a manner that is understood and appropriate. Obtain food allergies and food intolerance’s from patients as needed; communicate information to diet office/other team members. Chart in the patient medical record according to department standards and procedures. Utilize the computer system to enter diet orders, send messages, retrieve pertinent patient information. Serves as a nutrition resource and consultant to health care professionals and the community. Assists in managing hospital resources and participates in decisions regarding internal formulary and patient menu. Age Specific Competency. Utilize knowledge to provide nutrition care for a pediatric patient. Utilize knowledge to provide nutrition care for an adolescent patient. Utilize knowledge to provide nutrition care for an adult patient. Utilize knowledge to provide nutrition care for a geriatric patient. Maintain current RD registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration/ADA. Team/Organization Assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of protocols and nutritional standards of care to meet Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) requirements and other regulatory guidelines. Participates in unit/department performance improvement activities to ensure the development and implementation of processes, which support quality patient care and effective work performance. Participates in/assists with staff meetings and mandatory in-services and training programs to ensure continued understanding of all departmental and hospital policies, procedures and performance improvement processes. Communicates with others in ways that build trust and demonstrate respect for the dignity of each person. Adheres to all policies and procedures, including standards for attendance, punctuality and dress. Maintains appropriate confidentiality of job related information. Provide nutrition care in time allowed. Maintain a variety of departmental records and files related to nutrition care. Follow universal precautions. Manage multiple tasks concurrently. Demonstrate ability to make decisions. Assist other colleagues when and where applicable. Section 3 – Knowledge/Use of Equipment Demonstrate ability to use the Meditech system, PC, fax machine, copier and multi-line phone system. Section 4 – Continuous Quality Improvement Leads and/or participates in developing and designing systems and processes for the new organization. Continually improves and redesigns processes to increase productivity and quality. Section 5 – Required Education and Training Continuing Education: Identifies new topics for continuing education, and pursues educational offerings. Shares educational information with coworkers, keeps record of continuing education. Uses educational information to develop/update practice standards. Attends staff meetings and all annual mandatory sessions. Actively participates in staff orientation. Section 6 – Resource Utilization Demonstrates responsible use of resources, including time, facilities, supplies, equipment, staff, information, finances, education and developmental assets. Fiscally responsible, including corporate billing compliance. Efficiently uses resources, tools and supplies, recycling when possible. Uses and disposes of confidential information appropriately. Shares expertise and knowledge with others. Cares for equipment properly. Spends education funds responsibly to enhance job performance. Practices accountable and productive time management. Shares responsibility in facility upkeep (i.e.: see it, own it, do it, solve it). Seeks information and plans work to maximize team effectiveness

Education
Successful completion of ADA approved Intercept program.

Experience/Training
Progressively responsible experience in nutrition screening and assessment so of moderate/high-risk patients, nutrition education and counseling.

License/Certification
Registered Dietitian or attains RD status within 6 months of hire. Certified Dietitian in the State of Washington, or attains within 90 days of hire. American Heart Association BLS required. Certified diabetes educator preferred.
