Job Description:

The Pratt Library is in search of talented and motivated part-time Digital Navigators. The Digital Navigator will provide one-on-one or small group assistance to community members who need affordable home internet service, internet-capable devices, and/or coaching in introductory digital skills, in order to become effective home internet users. This assistance will be provided in-person at our branch locations, or by telephone, email, text, or video chat depending on the customer’s preference.

The Digital Navigator’s work is part of the Enoch Pratt Free Library’s (EPFL) efforts to provide technological support and digital empowerment for the residents of Baltimore city. The Digital Navigator is a part-time position.

Summary of Duties

The summary of duties listed below is not exhaustive. Additional duties are dependent upon the needs of the hiring department/division.

The Digital Navigator will:

  • Assist the Digital Equity team in performing digital literacy assessments of individual customers
  • Provide digital navigation services to library customers, which includes: discussing needs for technical support, discussing home internet and device access, and connecting customers with programs that meet their needs.
  • Carry out follow-up assessments and sessions with customers to ensure their success.
  • Maintain a customer database to track each client’s progress and types of requests, keep accurate and timely records, and report outcomes as required.
  • Be knowledgeable on the EPFL’s digital literacy programs and resources.
  • Support the needs of the Digital Equity Team and perform other duties as assigned.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. This could include lifting up to 50 lbs., standing on your feet for multiple hours, bending over for some time to work with a seated customer, and/or traveling to different locations within one shift.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience using Microsoft Office Suite or Office 365, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
Experience using various internet-capable devices: smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.
Familiarity with different operating systems: iOS, Android, MacOS, and Windows
Have access to reliable transportation

  • Strong digital literacy skills.

  • Excellent self-organization, language capacity, and cultural competency.
  • Excellent telephone and online communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent hospitality skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with diverse customers, coworkers, and community.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems, and negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
  • Preference will be given to qualified applicants who speak Spanish or another language in addition to English

Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.


The Enoch Pratt Free Library does not offer health insurance and leave benefits to part-time employees, however, some categories of part-time positions do receive retirement benefits.

For such positions, it is mandatory that they be enrolled in the Maryland State Retirement System. Which positions are enrolled is based upon the job description and the number of hours scheduled to be worked.
