To collaborate with educators, students, and community partners in order to support a college and career readiness culture that ensures students are on-track and on-time for a successful transition to high school.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure all components of the Individual Plan of Study (IPS) are conducted and reviewed by Family Advocates for each student.
  • Establish and organize meaningful in-school and out-of-school college and career experiences at each grade level with appropriate activities and discussions (e.g., employability skills) prior to and following these experiences.
  • Establish connections and relationships with professionals, the community, universities, and businesses in order to facilitate in and out-of-school college and career experiences.
  • Collect, maintain and monitor experience and IPS data.
  • Assist Family Advocates in monitoring all relevant IPS data. Facilitate consistent review, updating, and communication regarding each student’s Individual Plan of Study.
  • Communicate interest inventory results with all stakeholders.
  • Communicate with parents and community around all aspects of Diploma+.
  • Facilitate family support programming (e.g. academics and transitions (5th to 6th grade, 8th to 9th grade).
  • Maintain communication with the building Diploma+ Team and the district Diploma+ Team.
  • Work collaboratively with counselor(s).
  • Facilitate regular building Diploma+ Team meetings.
  • Attend all District Diploma+ Team meetings.
  • Monitor and maintain all elements of the Diploma+ Building Plan with fidelity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meets the employment qualifications set forth by the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education and the Kansas State Department of Education.
  • Kansas teaching certificate in area of instructional responsibility
  • English as a Second Language endorsement preferred or be committed to obtaining that endorsement
  • Good knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned.
  • Good knowledge of student growth and development applicable to the grade assigned.
  • Good knowledge of school’s program of studies related to mission, goals and organization.
  • Continually study and learn current research and theory.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
  • Ability to move around the room in order to effectively monitor student work and behavior.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and peers, including serving as a family advocate in the district-wide Family Advocate System.
  • Skilled and effective in oral and written communication.
  • Excellent human relations skills.
  • Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the fast-paced, high intensive work environment.
  • Possess the patience, caring and desire needed to work with the students and parents to see that each student has the opportunity to succeed.
  • Know and follow Section 504 and IDEA amendments.
  • Be courteous and professional at all times.
  • Maintain a neat and appropriate appearance.

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action that will meet the educational needs of students. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Performs other related work as required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant.

SALARY: based on KCKPS Certified Salary Schedule

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy
