Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital is a 35-bed rural acute care hospital located in Waimea (Kamuela), Hawaii Island. More than 300 employees and over a dozen employed physicians staff the main hospital, as well the outpatient clinics located in the Lucy Henriques Medical Center, at our Primary Care Clinic located near Longs Drugs, and at our Specialty Clinic located in the Parker Ranch Center.

Responsibilities


I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides organizational oversight and responsible for strategic leadership of the services, programs, functions and activities of Ancillary Services. Ensures services meet established quality, safety and outcome standards. Accountable for maintaining fiscal integrity and control. Accountable for the development and implementation of strategic and innovative initiatives to further the mission of the Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital (QNHCH). Responsible for outcomes and results to achieve the annual goals and objectives approved by the Board of Trustees. Recognizes and supports the unique heritage and mission established by the founders, Queens Emma and King Kamehameha IV.

Area(s) of Assignment: Directs and oversees the operations, including programs, functions, services, and activities of the ancillary service areas. May be assigned other areas of responsibility.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Essential: finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking.
  • Continuous: lifting up to ½ lb., seeing, hearing, talking, grasping, fingering, standing, walking, stooping, forward reaching, handling.
  • Frequent: pushing and pulling up to 30 pounds of force, lifting up to 10 lbs., sitting, bending.
  • Occasional to frequent: squatting, twisting.
  • Occasional: pushing and pulling up to maximum 50 pounds of force; lifting: horizontal lift/carry up to maximum 50 pounds; floor to waist up to 35 lbs., waist to shoulder up to 25 lbs., overhead level up to 15 lbs.; carrying up to 35 lbs, running, climbing, side bending, kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching.
  • Operates various equipment/machines/tools/work aids.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Exposure to body fluids, blood products, and communicable diseases.
  • Work environment may be highly stressful, fast paced and hectic.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, health care or related field.
  • Master’s degree in business administration or related health care and/or professional field highly preferred.
  • Hawaii State license as a clinical professional preferred.

B. EXPERIENCE:
  • Five (5) years progressively responsible management experience in a health care setting, with at least two (2) years in an outpatient or acute care setting.
  • Solid understanding of business principles, i.e., strategic and financial planning, budgeting, business planning, organization theory.
  • Proven leadership skills, i.e., planning, communications, motivation, mentoring, interpersonal skills.
  • Track record of managing multiple departments/functions, preferably in a comparable health care setting.
