Director, Defense Treat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Modeling and Simulation


Primary Location:
Fredericksburg, VA or DTRA HQs Fort Belvoir, VA and/or Albuquerque, New Mexico

Security Clearance: Active Top-Secret w/SCI eligibility

Ability to work remotely: In certain situations, position requires CONUS & OCONUS travel to execute M&S tasks on exercise customer sites (Force on Force (FoF), Nuclear and others).


Job Summary:

The Obsidian Solutions Group (OSG) is seeking a Director of Modeling and Simulation who has a solid background in exercise planning & execution, developing complex models & simulations (including virtual reality and gamming); the end state goal is to support and facilitate DTRA customer live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) simulations focused on accomplishing organizational training objectives to bolster national and international chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high explosives (CBRNE) security through assessments and exercises. This position chairs one of OSG’s three communities of Practice (COP): Modeling & Simulation, and therefore, implements innovation, continuous improvement, knowledge management and best practices through interaction with our DTRA subs, strong business cycles and academic exchanges. This position supports our efforts with The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in executing dynamic solutions to address known or emerging threats through assessments, exercises and modeling and simulations. This position is directly involved with the DTRA exercise planning process, and therefore, requires familiarity with a variety of IT tools including the FEMA Preparation Tool Kit, ATSsim exercise support tool (Compass), JTS, HPAC, GoogleEarth, Microsoft Office Tools Suite, Verity (web-based Full Scale Exercise Modeling and Simulation Program), Compass (web-based Digital MSEL Program), and Fusion (web-based TTX M&S program).


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Counter threats and vulnerabilities and bolster national and international chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high explosives (CBRNE) security through assessments, exercise design, and increasing customer awareness & capacity through modern modeling and simulations.
  • Integrate, manage, and execute multiple simultaneous CBRNE assessments, exercises, and modeling and simulation projects at varying levels of complexity.
  • Provide planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of series of physical security evaluations that includes FoF exercises, engineering studies of physical security features, and modeling and simulation designed to evaluate the adequacy of nuclear weapons security policy
  • Develop web applications to set up, execute, and visualize the results of various models across a wide range of mission focused activities.
  • Work with clients to ensure their ideas come to life in dynamic modeling & simulation
  • Create visualizations based on model-generated data sets.
  • Take responsibility for increasingly difficult tasks, completing them on schedule while documenting and presenting results.
  • Work within a collaborating team environment and support cross-functional product development.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or related field) and 5-7 years of experience OR Master’s Degree with 3-5 years of experience in web development and visualizations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in web application development, scripting program languages and creating visualizations from large data sets
  • Understanding of 3-D and 2-D models of terrain and audio and visual movements through the terrain; have deep understanding of VR & AI to integrate these into customer exercises
  • Willingness to learn new technologies as needed.

  • Normal Office environment


Travel:

  • CONUS and OCONUS in support of the DTRA missions and in execution may be required as part of mission requirements.
