The Director, Food and Resource Center (SOVA Food Pantry) provides leadership for sourcing, receiving, storage and distribution of food products through our food pantry program. S/he oversees personnel, volunteers, inventory control, grocery rescue, warehouse facilities, transportation and administrative and logistical functions for two facilities and pop-up pantries located in the greater Los Angeles area. This position also collaborates and strengthens community relationships with neighboring non-profits and organizations.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of organizational, management and supervisory experience applicable to overseeing day-to-day operations of a large food distribution program
- Background in oversight of database management and inventory control software highly desired
- Valid and unrestricted California Driver's license and good driving record
- Access to reliable transportation to travel between work sites
- Experience working in a social service, community or direct service setting environment desired
- Stellar interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with a diverse community and partners with all organizational levels
- Proven project management skills and the ability to think creatively and strategically while executing on aggressive timelines with multiple stakeholders with minimal supervision
- Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team setting, to manage projects from inception to completion, interface and communicate effectively with professionals, non-professionals and community
- Ability to combine understanding big picture organizational needs with strong attention to detais
- Must have effective problem-solving skills, be well-organized, with strong follow through on multiple projects
- Experience giving effective verbal presentations to funders, and leading donor tours of facilities
- Culturally sensitive and able to work with a multicultural client/customer population.
- Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Personnel management of SOVA team members and volunteers including hiring, orientation, supervision and ongoing evaluation and staff development
- Quality assurance oversight related to daily operation of (2) site-based food pantries and off-site pop up pantries, warehouse, food distribution programs and administrative office
- Assess and implement efficient standards of operation including opportunities for program development and expansion opportunities for SOVA with other social service organizations
- Work in partnership with other JFS programs offering site-based client services and participate in program development discussions as client needs arise
- Supervise activities related to inventory control, food ordering, safe efficient food storage and handling, distribution, accounting and transportation for warehouse and food pantries
- Supervise activities related to onsite client services, maintain computerized record of services provided, liaison with internal and external staff serving clients, and complaint resolution
- Establish positive relations with donors and volunteers
- In collaboration with supervisor, develop and manage operational budgets including review and approval of vendor invoices
- In collaboration with supervisor and grants director, assist as requested with writing grant proposals and providing statistical reports
- Provide oversight to managers and coordinators who provide tasks related to local transportation & routing; inventory control; orders and purchasing; facility management, warehousing equipment and technology.
- Build strong professional relationships and exhibit ability to work with diverse group of volunteers, staff and clients.
- Data tracking and management to provided statistical reports and detailed analysis as required.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards at all facilities and oversight of repair and maintenance of facilities and vehicles.
- Participate in donor relations activities including leading tours and making public presentations
- Participate in hunger relief advocacy efforts as requested/required
- Provide on call response to emergency situations
- Attend staff meetings and community meetings as requested/required
- Other duties as assigned
