POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: DIRECTOR OF ALTERNATIVE LICENSURE/PRINCIPAL MENTORING
REPORTS TO: SUPERINTENDENT
POSITION SUMMARY: Provide leadership and collaborate with state and local educators in initiating, maintaining and administering Morgan County Schools’ Alternative License programs that support new teacher development, instruction, and staff development while assuring compliance with District policy, Federal and State laws regarding public school education. Access State and Federal funding, and implementation requirements controlling or impacting alternative licensure programs. Examples include but are not limited to:
- Alternative Licensure k-12
- Principal Mentoring
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters Degree or higher in education or in a related field of special services from an accredited college or university.
- Have a minimum of three years teaching experience
- Administrative experience at district or school level preferred.
- Have or be eligible for a Type D administrative license in Colorado.
- Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate or acceptable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain knowledge of and access to State and Federal laws, their provisions, and their relationship to public school education and other programs impacting alternative licensure.
- Access and assemble assessment and demographic data, conduct needs assessments, facilitate planning, complete and submit applications and reports as required by the Colorado Department of Education for alternative licensure and for principal induction.
- Assist and support other administrators and staff in developing and maintaining processes and procedures for collecting, tracking and reporting of data as required for accountability as well as meeting legal State program requirements.
- Assist in the alignment of standards, curricula, critical objectives and assessments for candidates.
- Assist in monitoring curriculum implementation and articulation, recommending instructional changes as necessary.
- Communicate and collaborate with Colorado Department of Education personnel regarding allocation and competitive grant issues.
- Manage the various budgets associated with program.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and other staff about alternative licensure opportunities.
- Coordinate the District’s programs for administrator alternative licenses.
- Coordinate the District’s principal mentor program.
- Assist and support other administrators and staff members in the planning, coordination, implementation and supervision of specialized projects in support of academic achievement as designated by District vision.
- Write grant applications.
- Maintain professional competence and growth through participation in district provided and self-selected staff development opportunities.
- Coordinate district efforts in identifying needs, providing and evaluating professional development opportunities to address the staff needs.
- Perform such other tasks and responsibilities as may be needed for the efficient administration of the district’s instructional support services and assigned by the superintendent.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Excellent written and oral English language communication skills.
- Administrative and leadership skills, including consensus building, planning, organizing and utilizing resources.
- Ability to collect, interpret and utilize educational test data to increase student achievement.
- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate instructional programs, with an emphasis on differentiated instruction, for a diverse population of students within a k-12 system.
- Ability to conduct program evaluations including the organization of data for decision-making purposes.
- Understands public school finance and law, personnel administration, litigation and due process.
- Ability to apply and utilize technology as appropriate to the above listed responsibilities.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will work primarily indoors in public school settings, in various sized spaces, and with varying numbers of adults and students from diverse populations.
LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT:
12 months
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work hours are to be recommended by the Superintendent of Schools. The number of work hours and salary will be established by the Board of Education with the benefits and retirement that apply to administrative/supervisory personnel according to Board of Education policy. Job requirements often include evening and weekend responsibilities as well as out-of-district travel.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education policies that apply to licensed administrative personnel.
