We are currently seeking a Director of Camp Programs who will be responsible for the direct supervision of all non-Outdoor Education programs and program staff; including weekend retreats, family camps, community events, summer retreat groups, summer day camp and resident camp.
Candidates must have experience in customer relations, be able to respond to requests in a timely manner, and have a sense of order and presentation. Must have organizational, interpersonal, managerial, decision making skills. Applicant must be willing and able to manage controversial situations; manage large number of programs, assignments and tasks simultaneously. Ability to speak comfortably in front of large groups; handle difficult individuals, stressful situations and take initiative necessary in dealing w/children and parents. Ability to exercise discriminating and independent judgment. Detail oriented, self starter who must have ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect and responsibility with staff, volunteers, YMCA members, program participants and general public.
This Director maintains relationship with all guests, Board members, volunteers, campers, camper parents, donors, camp staff and vendors. In addition maintain relationships with association and branch staff - especially Association staff and branch teen leaders. It is expected that incumbent is involved with a community organization (chamber, Rotary, Lions, EMS..)
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Five years experience in supervisory and administrative skills.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in supervising and leading staff at camp.
- Demonstrate prior experience and ability to develop and implement a camp program that is proven to be of high quality and has increased enrollment year over year.
- Responsible for recruiting and booking groups to use the camp as well as scheduling and providing services for those groups.
- Show the ability to recruit, train and motivate staff to conduct a program of high quality.
- Experience recruiting campers and developing strategies to ensure new program growth and retention year over year.
- Ensure staff development through semi-annual reviews, staff meetings and on-going training.
- Work closely with all camp staff to ensure group needs are communicated to appropriate staff and concerns shared with staff in a timely and professional manner.
- Lead program staff in continuous quality improvement to strengthen branch operations and teamwork and will develop and monitor the budget in such a manner as meeting the expectations for the branch financial status.
- Must be able to swim and be able to obtain both lifeguard and lifeguard instructor certification and overseeing the waterfront programming of camp is part of the responsibility.
- Must have or be able to obtain CDL to drive camp bus.
- The incumbent must be able to learn and manage YMCA financial software (SGA), Human Resource software (Kronos), program registration software (CORE), risk management report software (Origami) and YMCA Promises software (Apricot). Incumbent must be proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel. Able to operate all office equipment with proficiency and accuracy.
- The incumbent must obtain and maintain any required training and/or certification required for the position.
