About the Role:
We are seeking a Director of Construction to build the next iteration of kitchens and support our continued growth. The primary responsibility of this role is to guide our project management team, GCs, and architects to deliver kitchens on schedule and budget; and, to take the reins when needed to run projects or expedite through hurdles. This role will have the opportunity to be an integral early member of the store development team at a fast growing company and will contribute to shaping the construction process at Local Kitchens.

Location:
San Francisco, CA (HQ) - preferred; Los Angeles, CA (satellite office)

Responsibilities:

  • Craft, guide, and expedite the planning and construction process and project flow:
  • Technical oversight of all projects - plan review, shop drawing approvals, etc..
  • Guidance of our development managers on the day-to-day
  • Permitting / expediting - lead a hands-on program to build city, mayor’s office, fire, health relationships
  • Manage Architects and GCs:
  • Negotiate bids / contracts
  • Keep accountable for on time delivery
  • Track portfolio of budgets:
  • Build budget model and track actuals vs. budget variance
  • Seek value engineering opportunities
  • Kitchen Equipment Procurement + Signage oversight:
  • Manage kitchen and signage vendor relationships
  • Negotiate contracts
  • Track for on time performance
  • Facilities oversight:
  • Build and effective program to minimize operational issues
  • Address major repairs / replacements and escalated issues

Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience in construction project management; preferably with restaurant experience
  • Keen attention to detail and ownership mentality
  • Multi-tasking and the ability to prioritize is essential to the role
  • Excellent communication; providing regular updates to internal partners and external vendors is critical to success
  • Schedule management; the ability to manage a construction schedule, anticipate hurdles and plan contingencies before delays happen
  • Sense of urgency; Local Kitchens is striving to deliver new locations much faster than industry average. In order to push the envelope, the candidate must operate with a sense of urgency even when a project delivery date is many months away. Every day lost at the beginning of a project cannot be reclaimed
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time

Nice to Have:

  • QSR/Restaurant/RetailI buildout experience
  • Proficiency with relevant software (Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Procore, etc.)
  • Ability to review and edit retail leases
