OVERVIEW:
The Director of Development for the International Swimming Hall of Fame will be responsible for leading and implementing fundraising strategies to support the organization's mission of preserving and promoting the history and culture of swimming as well as, promoting the spiritual mission of “Every Child A Swimmer”. This position will report directly to the CEO and work closely with the Board of Directors and other senior leaders to develop and execute fundraising plans. A successful fundraising strategy for the International Swimming Hall of Fame will likely involve a combination of outreach efforts, community engagement, and a compelling case for support. By engaging donors and volunteers, and by tracking progress towards fundraising goals, it's possible to raise the funds necessary to preserve and promote the history of swimming in Fort Lauderdale and beyond.
KEY RESPONSABILITES:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet the organization's financial goals, including major gifts, grants, corporate sponsorships, and annual giving campaigns.
- Identify potential donors who may be interested in supporting the cause. Potential donors could include swimming enthusiasts, former athletes, swimming clubs and teams, and sponsors who are passionate about swimming, history, and culture. This could include corporations, foundations, individuals, and other organizations that share the organization's values and priorities.
- Develop a compelling case for support. Once potential donors have been identified, it's important to develop a compelling case for support. This could include highlighting the impact that the International Swimming Hall of Fame has had on the sport of swimming, showcasing success stories of athletes who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame, and emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting the history of swimming.
- Cultivate relationships: Build relationships with potential donors and sponsors through personalized communications, including emails, phone calls, and in-person meetings. Get to know their interests and priorities and develop tailored strategies for each individual or organization.
- Engage volunteers and ambassadors: To help spread the word about the fundraising campaign, it can be helpful to engage volunteers and ambassadors who are passionate about the cause. This could include former athletes, local business leaders, and other individuals who can help to promote the fundraising campaign within their networks.
- Host fundraising events: Host fundraising events to engage donors and sponsors, such as galas, auctions, and other social gatherings. These events should highlight the organization's impact and provide opportunities for donors to network and learn more about the organization.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and stakeholders to secure financial support for the organization.
- Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, developing tailored cultivation and solicitation strategies for each individual or organization.
- Research and identify new funding sources and opportunities, including grant opportunities from private foundations, government agencies, and other organizations.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors and other senior leaders to develop and execute fundraising campaigns and events.
- Collaborate with staff across the organization to ensure that fundraising efforts are aligned with the organization's mission and priorities.
- Develop and maintain accurate records of donor activity and communications using the organization's donor management software.
- Leverage social media: Leverage social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to promote the organization and engage with potential donors and sponsors. This could include sharing stories about the organization's impact, highlighting upcoming events, and providing regular updates on fundraising progress.
- Seek grant opportunities: Research and seek out grant opportunities from private foundations, government agencies, and other organizations. Develop compelling grant proposals that highlight the organization's impact and align with the funder's priorities.
- Develop a major gifts program: Develop a major gifts program that focuses on securing significant donations from individual donors. Identify potential major donors and develop personalized strategies to cultivate and solicit their support.
- Acknowledge and recognize donors: Acknowledge and recognize donors and sponsors for their support through personalized thank-you letters, plaques, and other forms of recognition. Develop a donor recognition program that provides ongoing opportunities to engage with the organization and recognize donors for their contributions.
- Finally, it's important to track and report progress towards the fundraising goal. This can help to keep donors engaged and motivated to support the cause and can also help to identify areas where the fundraising strategy may need to be adjusted.
- Prepare regular reports on fundraising progress and results for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, business, communications, etc.)
- At least five years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a track record of successfully securing major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write compelling grant proposals and donor communications, and to make effective presentations to groups of donors and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and stakeholders.
- Experience with donor management software and database management.
- Passion for the mission and values of the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
