REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in non-profit leadership, education, communication or other related areas plus a minimum of three years of full-time experience
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of instructional design (or proven ability to perform the job)
  • Ability to be self-directed and work autonomously on a daily basis with capability to multi-task, make critical decisions and work with a variety of people and personalities
  • Demonstrated ability to make complex decisions, problem solve and work with volunteers
  • Ability to be a team player and work with volunteers either by leading or taking direction
  • Organizational skills sufficient to perform multiple tasks while managing and monitoring many aspects of the education experience and expectations
  • Occasional travel on overnight trips to attend events and flexibility to conduct work on evenings and weekends a few times a year

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Higher Education, or related areas
  • Have a general understanding of educational program development and working with volunteer leadership
  • Experience working in an association, non-profit and/or college/university setting
  • Understanding of orientation, transition, and retention in higher education (or the ability to learn concepts)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with various constituencies, including diverse populations
  • Recognizes the complexities of volunteer leadership and participation
  • Proven effectiveness at group/team member environment
  • Values diversity as expressed in NODA’s diversity statement

The Director for Education is a specialist in professional development training, curriculum development and education program delivery techniques. They are responsible for leading, directing, providing vision and oversight of NODA’s educational content (outside of conferences), and scholarly practice efforts. This position will be required to implement programs in a virtual and in-person environment. They will use instructional design to provide members skill development, industry content, and educational programs addressing the information and education needs. The individual in this position must be able to make complex decisions with authority and understand the risk, liability and implications that could impact NODA, the University, and constituents/stakeholders.

This is a 100%, 12-months, annually renewable appointment (classification 9745S1, Education Program Specialist 1).

JOB DUTIES:

Educational Management of Institutes/Symposiums and Core Competency Courses (35%):

  • Oversee, direct, and manage the educational content (learning outcomes, incorporation of Core Competencies and selection of educational programs) of all institutes and symposiums
  • Assist faculty with designing and incorporating instructional materials and assessment tools; including designing learning materials and instructional design principles
  • Working with the Core Competencies Integration Committee manage the development of the courses for NODA core competencies (including contributors, course content, logistics)
  • Coordinate new course development; course updates/revisions/redesigns; select an orient content facilitators (instructors)
  • Negotiate and finalize course development contract terms

Education and Program Management (30%):

  • Lead the effort to ensure the NODA Core Competencies are embedded into the overall educational plan and educational experience for NODA members
  • Develop, direct, and implement annual work plan and goals in the areas of educational programming and research initiatives as they relate to the strategic plan
  • Work closely with volunteers in the development of effective academic support and tools along with the Core Competencies Integration Committee and the Scholarly Practice and Resources Committee
  • Manage the NODA External Review program for higher education institutions looking to evaluate, enhance or reimagine their current orientation, transition, or retention programs
  • Facilitate content expertise related to orientation, transition, and retention (OTR) and the impact they may have on NODA membership, including guiding conversations related to subject matters within committees
  • Develop and deliver educational programs that meet the needs of NODA members and the profession while maximizing revenue from current program offerings and identification of new revenue streams.
  • Work in collaboration with the Associate Director of Membership and Operations for consistency across all educational programs

Publications (20%):

  • Manage all logistics related to publications including producing, monitoring, and overseeing all publications, including development and implementation of schedules and deadlines
  • Collaborate with educational partners on the management and coordination of publications and external advertisement
  • Responsible for the management of reviewing, and editing all OTR educational content in publications and electronic media for style (APA) and literary requirements
  • Develop a plan for revised current publications and new publications for consideration

Scholarly Practice and Resources (15%):

  • Seek and maintain knowledge and awareness of current issues, trends, theories, research in orientation, transition, and retention in higher education
  • Working with the Scholarly Practice and Resources Committee manage professional development and support around best practices in orientation, transition, and retention within the Association with the development of scholarly practices, research, and professional development offerings
  • Create a research agenda for the Association as guided by the strategic plan
  • Guide the work centered on scholarly applications such as grants and awards to catalyze new research that will advance knowledge and best practices in orientation, transition, and retention
  • Direct the strategic work for research and lead the development of the NODA Databank and NODA member Needs Assessment including approach, assessment, reports, trainings and overall implementation strategies

WORK MODE: This position will be remote with the expectation to meet in person with Association staff as required.

SALARY: Depending on qualifications.

NODA’s core purpose is to create an inclusive community of practice that enriches education, leadership, and professional development in the fields of college student orientation, transition, and retention.
