POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Accounting & Finance is an integral member of the Management Team and will serve as the administrative liaison to all department leaders by providing accurate and timely data that facilitates informed decisions by performing the following duties:


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compiles financial reporting. Formulates, receives, and recommends policy proposals for approval relating to accounting and auditing, the budget, revenue and cost control procedures, oversees the preparation and payment of payrolls, tax matters, and office methods and procedures.
  • Manages and conducts internal auditing procedures to help assure that records are accurately maintained and that established policies and practices are satisfactorily and consistently followed.
  • Prepares budgets and financial forecasts. Analyzes financial information, monitors budgeted versus actual expenditures and collaborates department heads about variances and their potential causes; recommends corrective actions to help assure that budget goals are met.
  • Manages and conducts internal auditing procedures to help assure that records are accurately maintained and that established policies and practices are satisfactorily and consistently followed.
  • Directs and verifies all inventories for golf and tennis merchandise, food, and beverage.
  • Works with the club's external CPA firm in the audit process and assistance in preparation of all Federal, State and County Tax Returns. Prepares and verifies reports made to agencies and trade and professional organizations for which dissemination is consistent with club policies.
  • Supervises the reconciliation of monthly ledgers including receivable, payables, bank accounts, asset accounts and wage accounts.
  • Attends monthly finance and other meetings as required.
  • Compiles, approves, and maintains credit applications for vendors.
  • Oversees the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions including member billing and collection procedures.
  • Works with department leaders to develop the annual operating budget.
  • Informs, advises, and collaborates with other department heads about the financial aspects of their responsibilities
  • Maintains fixed asset ledgers and prepares depreciation schedules for monthly entries.
  • Oversees the preparations of Florida Sales Tax returns and ensures timely payment of all Federal and State Income Tax liabilities.
  • Prepares accounting reports as necessary and appropriate for dissemination to the various stakeholders.
  • Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates the accounting team.
  • Assists the Membership department in administration of the Club refund of equity policy.
  • All other projects or tasks that may be assigned by the CFO or General Manager.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business; CPA, CHAE, or MACC a plus
  • 10+ years of professional accounting experience with at least three years at a Controller or above level.
  • Track-record of exceptional financial operations management in private clubs, non-profits, or high-end establishments in the hospitality industry.

Qualifications

  • Club specific ERP/accounting software experience required
  • Advanced proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office required
  • Northstar experience a plus
  • ADP experience a plus
  • Advanced proficiency in reporting automation
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Possesses strong follow-up skills and adheres strictly to all deadlines

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbs.

  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as financial statements, financial reports and tax documents. Ability to speak effectively within small groups. Must be able to speak, read and write English.
