Director of Human Resources

Wax Center Partners, one of European Wax Center’s largest and fastest-growing franchises, is seeking a Director of Human Resources to play an integral role in our growth. This is a hands-on role with the opportunity to directly impact the business through hiring, developing and preserving our human capital. This leadership role partners with our field members on a broad range of HR responsibilities such as employee relations, talent acquisition and retention, performance management, leadership and career development, engagement, compensation, culture, compliance, benefits and employee programs, among others. As a new organization, we need an experienced self-starter to build processes and align our brand and culture. Our headquarters are in Phoenix, AZ but this role can be remote with travel to the regions where we operate, currently Northern California, Phoenix, Dallas, and Las Vegas.

Responsibilities:

Recruiting:

  • Define recruiting process and own recruiting tools.
  • Ensure job and interview templates are legal.
  • Work with Ops in analyzing recruiting pipeline and optimizing processes.
  • Assist with back office and senior Ops leaders searches

Comp & Benefits:

  • Manage payroll process.
  • Negotiate benefits packages.
  • Make recommendations for benefits changes based on market research and cost impact.
  • Evaluate wages rates for all company positions and make recommendations to ensure we remain competitive within the labor market.

Employee Relations:

  • Provide templates for common workforce performance issues.
  • Define standards for escalating performance management.
  • Act as mediator, employee ambassador and/or alternative escalation channel when needed.
  • Conduct regular feedback sessions with Ops to identify trends in areas for awareness /retraining
  • Identify source and deliver mandatory training (e.g. anti-harassment, diversity & inclusion, etc.) and continuing education.

Compliance and Policies:

  • Maintain employee handbook, spanning workplace behaviors and standards, dress codes, attendance & time tracking, etc.
  • Ensure company policies align with safe workplace environment laws and best practices.
  • Own HR system and associated processes and work with Ops leaders to continuously streamline and automate processes

Managing Risk:

  • Maintain employee records in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Advise CEO on Worker's Comp, employee workforce issues, and how new state or federal laws may influence our operations.
  • Oversee or conduct investigations into labor issues and recommend course of action to CEO

Required Experience:

  • A background of at least 10 years as an HR business partner and at least 4 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Experience with workforces over 500 employees in a highly distributed format; prior multi-unit retail or franchise experience preferred
  • Comprehensive experience across HR disciplines building and leveraging software solutions across recruiting, performance management, payroll, employee engagement, and more
  • Outstanding problem solver with demonstrated ability to coach and influence at all levels of the business
  • Experience in employee relations and performance management required
  • Success simultaneously managing multiple HR projects, programs, stakeholders and deliverables
  • High emotional intelligence; expertise in relationship building, cultivating trust, and processing nuanced associate feedback
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; must be able to effectively communicate up, down and to all levels of the organization
  • Excellent follow through, judgement and common sense; able to thrive and make decisions in an ambiguous and continually evolving environment
  • Excellent knowledge of employment legislation (across states) and regulatory factors; HR certification a plus (aPHR, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, etc.)
  • Very organized with strong attention to detail
  • Passionate about building exceptional employee experiences and business culture
  • Ability to understand business P&L and key business drivers within retail
