Job Summary
The Director of Lift Maintenance & Operations oversees the Senior Manager of Lift Maintenance and the Manager of Lift Operations. This position is responsible for safe/efficient uphill and downhill transportation of all guests via Crested Butte’s chair lift infrastructure through the use of best practices and lift optimization data. This position will provide oversight of all capital and operational lift construction and special projects as assigned by the Director of Mountain Operations and GM; providing the quality and service required by regulatory agencies, and maintaining the standards set forth by Vail Resorts. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills enabling the highest levels of execution and job satisfaction while working toward excellent team cohesion and effectiveness.

Job Responsibilities
  • Encourage a caring safety culture within the department to achieve the goal of zero work related injury.
  • Provide reliability of all resort ski lift facilities to provide an unmatched quality of service for our internal and external guests.
  • Responsible along with Senior Manager of Lift Maintenance and Manager of Lift Operations for assuring lift equipment is in compliance with the Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board rules, ANSI, insurance, and Vail Resorts rules and regulations. Act alongside the senior manager of lift maintenace as the liaison to the CPTSB for meetings, lift licensing, inspections, and written reports on behalf of the resort.
  • Assist in the Continuous training, counseling, and mentoring of returning and new staff with a higher focus on leadership within the two teams. Assist in coordination and participate in the process to interview, hire, and train new employees in all aspects of daily lift operations and lift maintenance. Motivate, reward, and encourage all employees.
  • Understand Crested Butte/Vail Policies and Procedures. Implement and maintain these ensuring the best interests of the company as a whole are upheld. Assist in the Counseling and discipline of employees up to and including termination for violations of these policies.
  • Represent the Lift Operations and Lift Maintenance Departments at the Director level by active participation in all relevant local and enterprise wide meetings and BPGs. Conduct self in a manner that sets an example for lift operations and lift maintenance employees and other company employees in all professional and moral responsibilities while at work.
  • Understand and implement all requirements of ANSI, CPTSB and OSHA regulations. Build a professional working relationship with representatives of these agencies.
  • Responsible for development, oversight, forecasting, and adhering to all departmental capital and operating budgets. Work with Director of Mountain Operations/GM to maintain excellent control of all financial processes.
  • Assist in planing for the future development and capital improvements of all lift and lift operations systems. Continually update the Director of Mountain Operations/GM on the long term goals for lift system upgrades.
  • Assure that the Director of Mountain Operations/GM are immediately informed and consulted on all abnormal or unusual conditions, incidents, or system malfunctions.
  • Assure that all required records are maintained and kept up-to-date. This includes, but is not limited to, all mechanical, electrical and operational procedures, maintenance and operations logs, lift failures and incidents, and downtime logs
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications
Required:
  • High school education or equivalent, some college preferred
  • Experience managing large teams, Experience working in the ski industry
  • Minimum 4 years supervisory experience with strong management skills.
  • Valid Colorado Drivers License
  • Strong knowledge of desktop computer and applications – Microsoft office applications
  • Strong English communication skills including verbal & written
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lift operations & maintenance. Proven organization skills. Previous guest service experience
Preferred:
  • Strong skiing or riding ability
  • Previous experience with regulatory agencies.

The expected pay range is $80,000 - $97,700 + annual bonus + equity. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
