Director of Park Operations
Job Description:
The Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation (BBP), a not-for-profit corporation, is responsible for the design, construction and operation of
Brooklyn Bridge Park, an 85-acre, 1.3 mile, world-class park that stretches along the Brooklyn waterfront from Atlantic Avenue to Jay
Street, north of the Manhattan Bridge. Adding much-needed open space for Brooklyn and New York City residents, Brooklyn Bridge
Park contributes to the extraordinary revitalization of the waterfront in the New York Harbor, serving as a bridge from the commercial uses of previous centuries to the recreational uses of the future. Construction of the park is ongoing, and BBPC operates areas of the park as they open to the public, while continuing to construct the remaining portions of the park design.
Essential Functions
- Direct the day-to-day operations of the sanitation, security, and park management components at
Brooklyn Bridge Park. Plan, prioritize, and review all projects and staff assignments. Develop goals, objectives, and standards for carrying out work.
- Act in a general oversight capacity for all field custodial operations. Conduct inspections, condition assessments, and monitor operations. Formulate maintenance plans and make recommendations to resolve any deficiencies.
- Supervise three to five direct reports and twenty-five indirect reports. Contribute to department-wide resource allocation, staff development, and training. Direct and participate in budget creation, staff reviews, hiring, and terminations.
- Manage a series of supplemental service contractors including, but not limited to, NYC Parks
Enforcement Patrol, The Doe Fund, and pest/rodent control.
- Work with other team members on the organization’s initiatives related to asset management, GIS mapping, and park operations data tracking. Coordinate the Operations Department’s acceptance of new capital projects, including proper filing of all drawings, approved submittals, and product cut sheets.
- Direct the RFP process, competitively bid, and negotiate a variety of maintenance and service contracts. Maintain and update project schedules and budgets, communicating all milestones, requirements, and issues to the appropriate parties.
- Update, maintain and supervise the operations Health and Safety Program.
- Update, maintain and supervise the operations procurement and inventory program.
- Participate in logistics and processes for efficient, safe snow and ice removal, including the use of plows, snow blowers, and salt spreaders on an emergency and non-emergency basis during weekdays and weekends.
- Serve as a point-of-contact for various city agencies, including DPR, NYPD, FDNY, and DOHMH.
Represent Brooklyn Bridge Park at agency briefings.
- Contribute to the organization’s public art, programming, and placemaking strategies. Conceive and implement innovative ideas for public programs and visitor service. Provide input on the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities of existing programming.
- Research and communicate best practices in public space management. Maintain relationships with other Park Conservancies and Business Improvement Districts. Stay up-to-date on comparable park and real estate development projects;

Qualifications:
- Significant past experience in a management role supervising a field-based facilities staff;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Demonstrated interest in the evolving field of public space management;
- Knowledge of supervisory best practices;
- Detail-oriented, hardworking, energetic and self-motivated;
- Comfortable working independently or with a team in a park-setting.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time exempt position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There may be times when you are required to work outside of usual work hours. Will need to be able to work in an after-hours/on-call capacity. Salary range $100k-$115k.
NYC residency required. Employees are required to be vaccinated against Covid-19 by the first day of employment with the
exception of a medical or religious accommodation request. Valid driver's license required.
