DESCRIPTION
Director of Philanthropy, Donor Groups is committed to help a mission-driven nonprofit thrive, grow and have significant impact in the lives of our clients and our communities. This position resides within the Philanthropy Department and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and works closely with theSenior Vice President (SVP) of Philanthropy as well as our Marketing-Communications (Mar-Com) department, program leaders, and the grants department. The Director of Philanthropy, Donor Groups is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating fundraising and communications for the WLN activities.
The JVS Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) works to sustain and enhance JVS SoCal’s comprehensive array of programs that assist and empower women through career crisis or transition and move them from poverty to economic independence and self-sufficiency. The WLN produces the highly successful, Woman to Woman Conference (W2W), raising awareness and critical funding to sustain JVS SoCal programs serving women.
REQUIREMENTS
· Experience in non-profit fundraising, special events and marketing required, with a demonstrated track record of success in securing major gifts and corporate sponsors.
· Success and comfort in soliciting major gifts.
· Strong writing skills.
· Ability to develop and manage fundraising budgets.
· Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Raisers Edge is strongly preferred; working with donor databases is a must.
· Excellent leadership, management and decision-making skills.
· Strong oral communications skills, initiative, persistence, ability to multi-task, spirit of teamwork, and a positive attitude are required.
· Ability to motivate volunteer leadership and board members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Ensure meet/exceed annual WLN revenue goals.
· In collaboration with assigned JVS SoCal staff, plan and coordinate the annual W2W Conference.
· Plan and coordinate bi-monthly WLN Leadership Council meetings.
· Plan and coordinate WLN sub-committee meetings and follow-up to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
· Create, manage, implement and evaluate fundraising plan and goals, consistent with the JVS SoCal strategic plan.
· With the WLN Council members, plan WLN networking events.
· Direct and participate in research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors, and corporate sponsors.
· Develop strategy to secure new donors.
· Work with SVP Philanthropy, grants department and program directors and their staff, to develop and tailor compelling proposals, ensure timely reporting to corporations, foundations and donors, and to ensure that we are on track with deliverables.
· Collaborate with the Mar-Com staff to create written and electronic materials, including talking points and briefings. Work with program staff to understand and communicate effectively about the range of programs, which include accomplishments and impact.
· Work closely with the CFO and program managers on budget planning, identification of budget needs, and the implementation of the fundraising strategy to meet those needs. Ensure accuracy of revenues and expenses and report to WLN and JVS SoCal leadership on a regular basis.
· Provide guidance to event staff to ensure we provide a satisfying, well-managed experience. In collaboration with the WLN members, secure event sponsors, co-chairs, honorees and speakers. Conduct a post event evaluation and make suggestions for keeping events fresh and helping them grow.
· Manage and ensure accuracy of databases and reporting.
· Prepare department reports for board meetings, generate financial queries and reports to analyze fundraising strategies and coordinating with the philanthropy and finance staff to ensure accurate reporting.
· In conjunction with the Mar-Com development, work on the production of fundraising materials, including e-appeals, newsletters and thank you letters. Ensure that the WLN portion of the website is accurate and updated as necessary.
· Oversee the day-to-day administrative tasks.
· Supervise the Coordinator, Donor Groups.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required.
