Overview

This role will serve as a key leader in the successful implementation and execution of all company Safety and DOT initiatives within the Building Products Division. Must be able to successfully reduce and maintain key safety metrics and have strong analytical skills. The Director of Safety will be responsible for helping to develop, implement, manage and provide oversight of the division’s Safety and DOT programs. This position will focus on the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, communication and control of potential environmental, health and safety hazards. Builds an organizational cultural that supports policies related to safety, loss prevention, claims reporting and DOT. Assesses operations to identify Safety and DOT needs then issues and assists management with developing solutions. As the Director of Safety this role will manage the regional safety organization.

• Develop and implement short and long-range strategic safety goals, objectives and programs to achieve and maintain a safety-conscious culture
• Develops Regional Safety staff; sets goals in training and development, performance and career planning
• Provides assistance as a mentor and advisor to RMs, RVPs and SVPs to promote compliance with policies, industry standards, governmental regulations and customer requirements
• Implement, oversee and monitor effectiveness of employee safety training curriculum utilizing both on-line computer-based training tools and in-person training sessions
• Identify and anticipate Safety and DOT concerns/hazards, recommend and implement solutions
• Provide knowledge and expertise for compliance with key governmental regulations including OSHA, DOT and other federal, state, or local regulations
• Conduct in-person formal investigation on all major work-related incidents and issuing a report on same highlighting the root cause(s) of the incident and recommending any policy/procedural suggestions, if any, to upper management
• Builds best practices around Safety and DOT at all branch locations
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Considered subject matter and technical expert
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced and diverse organization
• Thorough understanding of Root Cause Analysis
• Ability to execute project plans for growth and operational improvements in safety
• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of CFR 49 Regulations- DOT Hours of Service, Driver Qualification Files, CSA and Hazardous Materials Regulation
• Experience dealing with regulatory agencies (OSHA, DOT)
• Must be willing to provide guidance, understanding and mentorship in a diverse environment while managing multiple priorities
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Strong presentation skills
• Travel requirements up to 50%
• At least 3 years in a supervisory role

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Safety + 10 yrs. relative experience with
• CSP, CHMM or equivalent certifications highly desired but not required
