Suveto Veterinary Healthy is looking for a vibrant and engaging Director of Veterinary Development to join the fun and fast-paced Learning and Development Team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your initiative, creativity, and passion for veterinary teams to cultivate the leadership development of Suveto Veterinary Health’s medical directors and the mentorship of early-career veterinarians throughout our 65 veterinary hospitals.
As a Director of Veterinary Development, you will create, maintain, and own relationships; encourage personal and professional development; and build culturally rich environments within the Suveto Veterinary Health hospitals alongside the Chief Veterinary Officer within the Learning and Development Team.
Leadership Development of Medical Directors
Suveto Veterinary Health believes that the leadership of our local hospitals is the key to hospital success and well-being. These leaders deserve a concierge-like experience as they grow their skills in creating a healthy workplace culture, ensuring the highest quality of care, and providing mentorship to the early-career veterinary associates within their hospitals. To that end, the Director of Veterinary development will be energized and find meaning in:
- Developing genuine, impactful relationships with Medical Directors within regional cohorts to understand, quantify, and develop plans to address their individual needs and opportunities for growth.
- Creating educational and team-building events for Medical Directors to increase their camaraderie and sense of community.
- Assisting in the design of a dynamic leadership development program for Medical Directors focused on improving team engagement, communication skills and happiness in the hospitals.
- Curating additional resources necessary for Medical Director development outside the established curriculum.
- Nurturing relationships with seasoned veterinary leaders in the Suveto Veterinary Health network who have volunteered to coach and mentor early-career Medical Directors.
- Coaching (in-person and virtually) a cohort of Medical Directors on core clinical communication skills using standardized, established communication coaching techniques.
Mentorship of Early-Career Veterinarians

Connecting seasoned clinicians and leaders with early-career veterinarians who have been in practice for 1-5 years is one of the ways that you will be enriching their lives and providing unique learning opportunities for the next generation of veterinarians. As the Director of Veterinary Development, you will collaborate with key stakeholders and delight in:
- Identifying compelling and dedicated mentors within Suveto Veterinary Health who are invigorated by giving back to the profession through coaching and mentoring early-career veterinarians.
- Co-creating goals for individual mentees so they can become the best versions of themselves while aligning them with Suveto Veterinary Health’s strategic goals and priorities
- Nurturing the relationships between mentors and mentees with an eye to the effectiveness and value of their interactions by tracking how they are reaching the goals of the mentee in a timely manner and impacting the KPIs identified by the hospital leadership.
- Partnering with established mentorship resources to provide a well-rounded mentorship experience to the mentees
- Providing individualized mentorship as needed
Clinical Education and Professional Development of Associate Veterinarians
Suveto Veterinary Health believes that clinical and professional development opportunities should be available for all veterinarians in the network, beyond what is required for licensure. Learning as a community is an excellent way to build camaraderie among colleagues and share “Best Practices” throughout the network of hospitals. As the Director of Veterinary Development, you will collaborate with the Vice President of the Harbor Community, the Events Manager and the rest of the Learning and Development team and will be invigorated by:
- Creating and curating compelling educational content for new graduates, early-career veterinarians and seasoned clinicians both virtually (synchronous and asynchronous courses) and in-person (wetlabs and didactic events).
- Serving on the Harbor Community’s content advisory committee to ensure that veterinary students within the community receive engaging and relevant educational material that prepares them for ownership in clinical practice.

The Learning and Development team wakes up every morning with a focus on supporting the hospitals in Suveto Veterinary Health’s network. Our hospitals are our customers! Therefore, as the Director of Veterinary Development, you should enjoy engaging with multiple departments within our organization by:
- Aiding Hospital Operations in the development of staff in areas of personal and professional skills
- Assisting the Recruiting team in connecting with qualified DVM candidates and, if needed, helping hospital leadership with the interviewing and hiring process
- Anticipating and proactively preparing for issues while making thoughtful recommendations
- Using conflict resolution skills and exceptional communication tools. Cultivating a team culture that is upbeat, energetic, engaging, collaborative and friendly
- Listening, processing, and responding to needs and concerns
- Modeling an open-door policy and encouraging discussion of differing opinions
- Developing a team-based approach to leadership instead of a ‘top down’ mentality
- Championing Suveto Veterinary Health programs, projects and initiatives
Schedule: Monday to Friday with occasional weekend and evening work.

Reporting to: Chief Veterinary Officer, Head of Learning and Development
Requirements:- Licensed DVM/VMD with a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience.
- Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration and project management experience in a clinical, academic, or industry setting to create scalable engaging, technically accurate, multimedia educational programing for veterinary audiences
- Demonstrated, results-oriented small group facilitation experience
- FRANK Communication coaching experience is preferred
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Exceptional communication and conflict resolution skills
- Work remotely with possible evening and weekend responsibilities
- Travel 25% maximum, including overnight stays
