Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of 30+ team members supporting strategic business initiatives crossing multiple Payment Integrity business units and operating groups. You will lead annual capital planning activities for the organization and will be accountable for driving the creation of Cost/Benefit Analyses, Business Cases and on-going capital spend monitoring for up to $100M in investment capital
  • Leverage your network to get things done; you will share information across functions and departments; you will build effective teams committed to organizational goals, foster collaboration among team members and among teams and work to address relevant issues
  • Handle day-to-day work challenges confidently and will be willing and able to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change and be resilient in the face of constraints, frustrations, or adversity, demonstrating flexibility and a growth mindset
  • Regularly report out to Payer executive leadership on all initiatives under your purview, which includes multiple forums across multiple lines of business. You will monitor the business initiatives portfolio, ensuring that the appropriate rigor (financial, operational, executional) is in place for the business portfolio
  • Develop a capital spend reporting strategy that will drive the right decision making and staffing by a heavily matrixed team. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to manage the day-to-day activities that support operational and organizational capital planning activities and related reporting and analysis for strategic and operational decision making
  • Collaboratively work with the Payer product organization to define capital funding needs, create the operational infrastructure to support the capture and prioritization of capital projects, and ensure the adoption of standards for accomplishing program deliverables, staffing requirements, allotment of resources to various phases of business projects and lead others in the organization to make meaningful process improvements
  • Work with the Product Engineering team and internal operational stakeholders to develop processes, systems and tools to provide accurate and high-quality capital budgets and forecasts, to facilitate short and long term strategic and operational business decisions
  • Learn the Payment Integrity businesses and serve as a strategic partner to the Payment Integrity senior leadership team, providing risk management, issue remediation, and execution support across all business units. You will show an understanding of issues relevant to the broad organization and business and keep and use cross-functional knowledge as you navigate the organization
  • Investigate non-standard requests and problems, make presentations to senior executive leadership, ensure portfolio documentation is accurate and ensure portfolio projects are completed on time and within scope and budget
  • Pertinent data and facts will be reviewed to identify and solve issues and mitigate risks, prioritize your team’s workload, ad hoc projects as assigned and develop pioneering approaches to emerging industry trends. The successful candidate in this role will have led business portfolio work and understand how to partner with technology teams to enable business processes. This role will afford the right candidate the ability to collaborate across UnitedHealth Group, supporting work within both Optum and UnitedHealthcare

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Undergraduate degree with equivalent experience
  • Experience working with Cost/Benefit Analyses and writing Business Cases
  • 10+ years of experience in tracking, planning activities, working with large datasets, and making data-driven analytical decisions
  • 10+ years of managerial experience with teams >30
  • 5+ years of non-technology business experience in a program or product manager role
  • 5+ years of business-related program and portfolio management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA
  • 5+ years of healthcare experience, specifically working with health services and health plans
  • Experience in the Payer Market, Payment Integrity, and/or with Payer products

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
