strategic leadership and execution of all product design and development activities for designated
Colleges/Schools/Programs within Adtalem as part of the Product Development and Classroom Design (PDCD) organization. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Product Design and Development and provides leadership oversight and coordination of Learning Experience Design teams within the College/School/Program and leads product and student experience initiatives, providing critical oversight of academic program/course development.
Leadership
- Provides leadership and creates an environment of overall excellence for the designated College/School/Program Product Development teams in PDCD
- Collaborates and co-leads College/School/Program planning and initiatives with Sr. Director of Product Design and Development, Academic Leadership, Product Management, and academic teams in alignment with Strategic Plan, Long Range Plan (LRP), and business objectives
- Leads College/School/Program Product Design and Development Team as the primary relationship manager between the Academic Deans and/or program-specific stakeholders and PDCD Development Teams to ensure the integrity of the program design/development
- Works collaboratively with institutional leaders to consult on online strategy, program positioning, annual budget development, and the integration of learning models into the curriculum experience
- Leads decision-making processes for program design and development within the context of budget, time, and resources
- Leads and supports the design and development team in collaboration with Managers/Sr. Managers of Learning Experience Design and Sr. Learning Experience Designers to ensure effective instructional design, curriculum design, online learning, adult learning theory, and andragogy/pedagogy principles are evident in all program and course development
- Leads and supervises Sr. Managers of Learning Experience Design, Senior Learning Experience Designers and the Product Design and Development Oversees and monitors product development budgets for the College/School’s programs in collaboration with Sr. Director of Product Design and Development, Sr. Managers of Learning Experience Design, Sr. Learning Experience Designers, and Finance team
- Supports and furthers institutions’ mission and vision through the provision of high-quality academic products; integrates the institution’s mission, vision, and initiatives throughout all development work within PDCD
- Collaborates with faculty, serves on councils, and works with staff to effectively drive the institution’s policies, technology, and improvement initiatives
- Collaborates across PDCD to align with strategic initiatives and priorities
- Creates and supports professional development opportunities for Learning Experience Design teams
- Oversees special projects and initiatives as assigned
Management
- Manages the day-to-day operations of all College/School/Program Product Development activities, including responsibility for budget, resourcing, and personnel
- Supervises, supports, and collaborates with Sr. Managers/Managers of Learning Experience Design and Senior Learning Experience Designers and advocates on their behalf, as necessary
- Works collaboratively across the academic, product management, and finance teams to monitor and manage College/School/Program CapEx Product Development budget and advocate for resources, as necessary
- Reviews and approves contracts and assignments for content and development work
External Relations
- Develops appropriate partnerships consistent with PDCD responsibilities
- Represents PDCD at appropriate professional meetings and conferences
- Prepares appropriate documentation for accrediting and other agencies

A master’s (or higher) degree. Substantial teaching experience and/or instructional design experience beyond the minimum requirement (below) may serve to fulfill this requirement.- A minimum of 10 years of instructional design and development leadership
- Significant experience leading geographically diverse teams of instructional design professionals
- A minimum of 10 years related experience in higher education and a track record of success leading high profile, strategic initiatives
- Extensive knowledge of contemporary instructional design processes and practices
- Advanced knowledge of digital product innovation principles, practices, methods, and terminology
- Experience working with product development, technology, and academic teams in a matrixed role
- Demonstrated ability to communicate issues and recommendations persuasively and effectively to key executives/stakeholders
- In-depth understanding of the higher education industry
- Proven success as a decision-maker in a collaborative, highly matrixed environment with multiple direct and indirect reporting structures throughout the organization
- Stakeholder collaboration experience, with the ability to quickly develop and manage both internal and external relationships across cultural and geographical boundaries; the ability to use a collaborative model to leverage resources effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to develop and deliver
- Strong client relationship management skills
- Experience in budget, finance management, and contract management
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage and lead a geographically dispersed and culturally diverse remote workforce
- Successful experience in relationship management across a range of partners
- Strong interpersonal skills and history of positive results achieved collaboratively
- Strong organizational skills and excellent at follow-up and attention to detail
- Must have demonstrated track record of serving as a role model for collaboration
