The Product Operations group is an integral part of the Product Development team. Comprised of the Project Management, Program Management and Production teams our goal is to drive the development of high-quality curriculum materials to help millions of K–8 students across the country!
The Director, Project Management leads a talented, dedicated, highly skilled team of project management professionals. As a hands-on leader you will work to support strategic and operational initiatives, as well as oversee and manage continuous planning across projects, ensuring execution achieves intended outcome. The Director, Project Management, is responsible for developing and maintaining high standards by setting proven best practice project management methodologies, standards, and tools. This individual is the leader on all projects within the portfolio and oversees the project management process including governance, team leadership, monitoring, prioritization, communication, and quality controls. This role is a critical member of the cross functional product development leadership team made up of editorial, creative, production, and access & equity managers and directors.
The impact you'll have:
Lead communication efforts with leadership to define project priorities and share project risks and opportunities
Supervise the project management team to ensure the delivery of projects on time, within scope, and on budget
Monitor and analyze project metrics to identify issues or problems and propose operational improvements and cost savings for future projects
Lead the response team around escalated project issues that may impede project success and coordinate solutions
Manage the change request process, overseeing identification and documentation of changes in scope
Oversee major procurement contracts to ensure proper accountability, effectiveness, and efficiency
Build strong relationships with functional area leaders to ensure that work is easier and smoother for all project team members
Lead regular review process with leadership teams, drive prioritization and report on status
Identify resource bottlenecks and work with extended leadership team to address
Partner with product teams to champion operational excellence and cross-team collaboration
Coach and mentor project managers and share knowledge of best practices
Support this fast growing team by hiring and managing project manager staffing requirements in line with project objectives
Set annual performance targets for direct reports and conduct performance reviews
Develop and deliver training to small and large groups
Champion team health, fostering effective cycles of feedback and a team environment that allows candor, trust, and the ability to fail fast to learn quickly
On time, on budget delivery of assigned roadmap
Manage cross functional relationships both inside and outside product development
Who we're looking for:
10+ years of experience in project management; 5+ years’ experience directly managing teams
Expert knowledge of project management methodologies, including Waterfall, Agile, and Hybrid
Proven record of accomplishment of successful project delivery
Demonstrated ability to improve project management practices
Substantial team leadership experience with a focus on team development
Expert-level knowledge of project and change management methodologies, techniques, and processes
Budget, cost, and profitability management skills
Excellent judgement with proven ability to identify problems and deal with complex issues
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly on challenging, complex, and difficult issues to develop solutions that address root causes
Ability to drive from uncertainty to actionable plans
Flexible, adaptable, and resourceful when managing changing timelines and multiple deliverables
Demonstrated leadership ability to establish and manage a high-performance team
Commitment to excellence with a positive and resilient attitude
Advanced organizational and communication skills, as well as an aptitude for accuracy and details
Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment
Experience in the education market, in either curriculum development or education technology fields
Mission driven to support best in class classroom solutions
Not required, although we'd love to see:
Project Management experience in a Product Development role
PMI/PMP/CSM Certification preferred.
