Department Description:
The Global Business Development & Licensing (BD&L) department is part of Sanofi Partnering, a Global Enabling Function within Sanofi Group. The mission of Global BD&L is to seek and execute external growth initiatives to address the Sanofi Group´s strategic priorities. This mission is fully supporting Sanofi´s strategic roadmap, specially aligned with the following strategic priorities: Reshape the portfolio and Sustain innovation in R&D.
The key activities of Global BD&L are the scouting, evaluation, structuring, negotiation and closing of strategic alliances with external companies beyond Sanofi Group, involving products and other product- related assets.
The R&D-Transactions team is responsible for establishing early partnerships to enable R&D to access external innovations to support and accelerate its internal portfolio.
Job Summary:
As Director of R&D Transactions, the individual will oversee a broad range of R&D contract negotiations and work collaboratively at the interface with multiple functions such as R&D, Finance, Legal and Patents. He/she will be a strong and trusted representative of Sanofi with external parties. In addition, he/she will develop close relationships with Partnering colleagues and R&D stakeholders, including regular interactions with senior management.
Principal Job Duties
Structure, negotiate and establish agreements aligned with the needs of R&D units and platforms. This includes collaborations, MTAs, in- and out- licenses.
Lead transversal teams composed of R&D, Legal, Patent and Finance representatives to define the contractual rights and obligations of each contract and translate them into legal language.
Work closely with the rest of the R&D Transactions team currently composed of people based in Paris and Frankfurt.
Build and maintain a strong external and internal network and contribute to making R&D Transactions a trusted partnering organization.
Master contracting databases and tools and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes in line with Play To Win behaviors.
Perform regular reporting activities to Partnering and R&D senior managements showcasing R&D Transactions activities.
Basic Qualifications:
Master degree in Biology, pharmaceutical or Medical Science or equivalent
A second degree in management or in law would be a plus
Demonstrated strong understanding of intellectual property topics.
Minimum of 5 years experience in negotiating and executing partnerships within a biotech/pharma or academic organization
Core Competencies

Excellent understanding of the terms and conditions of agreements (intellectual properties provisions, publication language, long-term obligations, etc.).
Excellent problem-solving, conflict-resolution and decision-making skills. Result and quality oriented: able to analyze inputs from all involved departments, to identify the impact, draw conclusions, to set direction and define appropriate actions
Collaborative, able to work with transverse, cross-functional, cross-cultural teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong presentation skills
Strong interest in legal and intellectual property topics and strong commitment to confidentiality
Ability to be a Sanofi ambassador Sanofi to the external scientific/academic communities.
Willingness to travel internationally as needed.
