Public Safety Communications Command Staff Job Description
This position performs telecommunications work in the operation of radio transmitting equipment and other automated systems to dispatch and communicate with mobile public safety and other units.
Duties and Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
- Receives and disseminates written and voice messages by telephone and radio.
- Transmits messages and departmental information by radio to personnel in the field.
- Maintains files on BOLO’s, missing, or lost persons, stolen vehicles, and related information used in disseminating information to Patrol units.
- Furnishes patrol units with computer data as requested.
- Dispatch all calls for Police service including 911 emergencies.
- Monitors all internal office telephones, two-way radio communications, alarm and access control systems.
- Assists the public by greeting students, faculty and staff when they enter the command station and respond to informational requests.
- Performs related work as assigned by the Director/Chief of Public Safety or a designee
- Keeps official records.
- Monitor CCTV/Surveillance cameras for unusual event.
- Assists in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures of the Communications Center.
- Research status students and notify the appropriate unit of the results.
- Calls for tow trucks; request back up as needed.
- Logs in and out items that have been turned in to Lost and Found
Qualifications:
- Security License for the State of Florida class D
- Must have a valid FL Driver’s License
- Must own your own vehicle/Have Reliable Transportation
- Must have a professional demeanor and appearance
- Excellent customer service skills
- Motivated and professional
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
- Customer Service: 3 years (Preferred)
- Security: 2 years (Preferred)
- Possess command of proper telephone etiquette and general office procedures
Tuition Benefit
After 1 year of continuous full‐time service, employees are eligible to enroll in STU’s bachelor and master courses, tuition‐free. The program will cover a maximum timeframe of 125% of credit hours attempted toward the degree program. Employees may enroll in STU’s doctoral program, with a 40% tuition discount, under the same conditions.
