Management responsibilities of the Distribution Center Manager include inventory management, order processing, picking, packaging, shipping and receiving. Balances workloads as needed to achieve safety, employee retention, production and delivery goals. Utilizes software, data, and analytics to optimize operations, track production metrics, and anticipate/resolve concerns. Provides the applicable equipment, tools and training to ensure a safe work environment. Ensures Compliance with all ISO, OSHA and other regulations, policies, safety procedures and documentation requirements. Participates in the evaluation of transportation/freight services and manages local vendor relations. Ensures that project/department goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.

Essential Functions:

  • Champions the execution, development, and implementation of policies, procedures and training to ensure processes result in a safe, employee focused, efficiently managed Distribution Center/warehouse environment.
  • Ensures that new hires are fully integrated into company culture to reduce employee turnover.
  • Addresses team challenges and follows up on applicable disciplinary procedures.
  • Must promote and follow LION’s core beliefs.
  • Promotes a positive attitude towards safety and health by participating in safety meetings, setting safety standards for team, and participating in safety audits.
  • Ensures that all operations are performed with regard for the safety and health of all personnel involved; conducts frequent inspections to ensure that the work environment within their department is safe and that employees are working in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for achieving operational objectives by creating strategic action plans.
  • As it relates to service – establishes and maintains standards/metrics that provide visibility to all key operational employees – this piece is necessary to manage and control results while meeting customer expectations.
  • Collaborates with VP of Operations to develop distribution center/warehouse design changes by planning layout, product flow, and product handling systems.
  • Develops/maintains a thorough and consistent line of communication with all applicable departments within LION.
  • Analyzes operating and delivery procedures, systems and schedules and all other distribution center activities to identify potential efficiency improvements and cost-savings.
  • Responsible for managing the inventory process as it relates to all functions within the distribution center/warehouse environment.
  • Serves as project or facility leader during warehouse management system design and implementation for system upgrade or new system conversion.
  • Responsible for preparing and submitting the expense and capital expenditure budgets for the distribution center.
  • Maintains contact with scheduling, sales, customer service, inventory control and third-party transportation providers (to meet delivery schedules and effectively manager carrier capacity).
  • Develops and oversees operational and financial plans for the distribution center.
  • Evaluates deficiencies and makes necessary improvements to attain divisional and company goals.
  • As it relates to resource management – optimizes utilization of space, capacity management, and facilities.
  • As it relates to physical inventory control – manages proactive and reactive cycle counting.
  • Batch, serialization and expiration management– oversee management of short-dated materials and ensure first in first out picking methodology is followed.
  • Product and waste disposal – manage disposition of damaged, expired, recalled, and returned inventory/packaging.
  • Continuous improvement – apply Lean, Six Sigma and other tools to drive service, quality and cost across all areas of responsibility.
  • Budget and financial performance – assembles department budget and manages budget throughout year.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Conducts audits/reviews in all areas of the warehouse/distribution center process
  • Analyzes data and documentation through work management system
  • Other duties as needed

Education & Experience Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Oracle WMS, business warehouse or equivalent
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, including the capability to work across multiple functions and with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to lead and supervise others through positive engagement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, experience with Excel and PowerBI preferred.
  • Fosters a climate of continuous improvement throughout the organization
  • Performs within approved operating and capital budgets
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or Mechanical Engineering (or related field) preferred
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new situations, changing processes, programs and services
  • Competence in supply chain management and warehouse management
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and ISO 9001 standards
  • Microsoft Office skills

Requirements:

  • Standing, sitting, walking, bending as needed or for sustained periods of time.
  • Light carrying: Physically transporting items weighing less than 15 pounds from one location to another.
  • Moderate carrying: Items weighing 15-44 pounds
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with fingers (including thumb) and palm.
  • Light lifting: Raising objects under 15 pounds from a lowed to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from one position to another.
  • Moderate lifting: Object 15-44 pounds
  • Hearing and vision required to be within normal ranges with or without correction.
  • Using proper lifting technique may be required to lift objects up to 30 lbs.
  • Displays ambitious, positive attitude
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and/or written instructions and other information.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work proactively and independently in a fast-changing environment.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).

Relationships & Contacts:

  • Communicates with all plant management, Kentucky plant leadership, Supervisors, Human Resources, operations staff, and plant team members.
