(Approximately $37,440.00 - $41,600.00 annually)

General Position Summary

Over the course of a day, the Documentarian/Archivist may work in many fields.
These may include but are not limited to; photography, videography, archiving, technical writing, copy writing/editing, physical labor, organization (digital and physical), scanning objects, presentation development, scissor lift operating, data entry, product sample and documentation storage, biography writing, tech support, and other tasks as requested by management.

Essential Responsibilities

Technical Writing

  • Write instructions and technical manuals for our products by gathering information from fabrication teams.
  • Interface with fabricators and interpret/synthesize their processes to then describe to the client.
  • Cross-referencing multiple build documents for consistent nomenclature and content.
  • Write technical briefs, press releases, biographies, project descriptions, etc. with consideration to audience and intent.
  • Reading through client documents to determine what information is necessary for documentation.

Photography & Videography

  • Capture photographs in various states of lighting and motion for varying needs.
  • Utilizing knowledge of camera, lens, and light to develop photogrammetry techniques.
  • Capture video in a variety of settings.
  • Edit and produce video for multiple devices and purposes.

Archiving & Organization

  • Inventory and create organizational structures for our physical and digital tooling and artifacts.
  • Maintain our physical and digital archives. Including learning and sustaining the existing structure and working towards adapting it for new projects.
  • Retrieving documents and artifacts.
  • Operating a lift (training to be provided).

Other Tasks

  • 3D Scan objects of varying material and scale using multiple techniques.
  • Process scan data to produce highly accurate poly or solid models.
  • Update and maintain company website (Platform: Square Space)
  • Taking and editing new employee portraits

Specific Job Skills

  • Writing for multiple audiences
  • Technical writing
  • Reading
  • Still and video camera operation, studio lighting, steady cam operation
  • Software knowledge: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop (or equivalent), text formatting software
  • Strong organizational skills

Useful Skills: Aptitude or knowledge of; fabrication, mechanics, crafts, sculpting, sewing, mold making, etc.

Job Conditions

Most of your time will be spent at your computer, sometimes days spent lifting/moving heavy objects or on feet holding cameras and equipment. Some time spent interfacing with both managers and fabricators to document processes, final products and gather client manual information.

Schedule Monday – Friday

Hours 7:30am – 4:15pm (Lunch 12:00pm – 12:45pm), 40 hours a week.

Overtime may occur but should be kept to a minimum.

At our facility we house decades worth of build documentation for numerous clients. To uphold our high-quality build standards, the preservation and presentation of our work is paramount. Most of the build documentation is comprised of fabric & foam samples, paper templates and wood or metal fixtures, along with written instructions and photographic printouts. Most of these elements are stored in labeled bins and are grouped by Client, Show and Element.
Maintaining the storage system allows for project bins to be easily found and put away by the fabricators.
