JOB SUMMARY
The Distribution and Recycling Center Associate Driver will drive a light vehicle such as a truck or van to deliver store merchandise to and from the Mission stores and the DRC, pick up donations from the community, load and unload the vehicle, prepare and sort donations into the proper locations and will identify and separate recyclable donations, receive donations, sort, hang, tag, clean and prepare donations for resale or recycling. Workdays include weekdays and Saturdays.

Compensation: $13.00 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS
- Evidence of positive Christian Witness and lifestyle as referenced in the lifestyle covenant.
- Patient and loving attitude.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to follow and give clear and concise directions to staff and volunteers.
- Ability to be a team player.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Strong oral and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and successfully completed the Mission’s driving test.
- Physical ability to stand, lift up to 50 pounds unassisted, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Follow Rescue Mission Dress and Behavior Codes.
- Ability to use E-mail, Punch Clock, Intranet, and cell phone or camera to take photos.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Clear understanding of how the city of Roanoke and surrounding areas are laid out.
JOB DUTIES
- Read maps and follow written or verbal geographic directions.
- Obey all traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
- Follow all safety rules including the wearing of seat belts while driving or riding in the vehicle.
- Deliver safe, quick, and efficient service including packing the trucks to optimize space.
- Prepare, weigh, record and make ready the Goodwill recyclables for transport.
- Understand the Rescue Mission Donation Acceptance guidelines and receive donations from donors.
- Distribute donation receipts, coupons, and flyers to donors.
- Take photos of donors with their unique purchases and donations. Get photo releases. Email photos and information to Development for use in newsletters, printed pieces, and social media.
- Greet donors, volunteers, and employees with a positive attitude.
- Understand the quality of donations and where they will be sourced – 2nd helpings, THRIFT 460, Manna, Goodwill books, Goodwill recycling, trash, or other categories as requested.
- Inspect, sort, hang, tag, clean and prepare donations for sale in the stores including donations such house wares, clothing, shoes, curios, furniture, electronics, accessories, etc.
- Scan books for Goodwill sales.
- Sanitize furniture and soft goods per state law.
- Maintain a clean, neat, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all Rescue Mission policies and procedures and ask for help when needed.
- Train volunteers, community service workers, Tabitha participants, and others to successfully perform the job assigned.
- Adhere to all safety rules, and PPE requirements and be prepared to help your co-workers to do the same.
- Know and follow the organization’s policies and procedures and ask for help when needed.
- Focus on and complete the task at hand.
- Attend weekly DRC meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to write, handle or feel.
- Ability to see well during the day and night.
- Ability to hear well.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee will have to be able to stand and walk for up to 9 hours.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to balance and stoop.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee will have to drive and sit.
- The employee will regularly be required to lift 50 pounds unassisted and >50 pounds with assistance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The noise level and room temperature are usually moderate inside the warehouse.
- The noise level and temperature can vary in the vehicle and are controlled by the driver.
- The receiving dock is open to the outside, so when receiving donations, the environment will reflect the current weather.
While loading and unloading the vehicle, the noise and level depending on the location and environment.
