Job Summary

The Driver and Warehouse Team Member position is essential to the safe, effective, and efficient operation of Black River Valley Natural and is a non-exempt position and will report directly to the Sales, Marketing, and Fulfillment Manager. This position will perform a wide range of tasks related to the pickup, safe handling and storage, and delivery of dairy products and other value-added food products. This position will also be responsible for safe vehicle operation and order delivery as well as some equipment and facility cleaning and sanitation duties as required in a food warehouse and processing facility. Some light maintenance and troubleshooting could be required on occasion.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Driver and Warehouse Team Member must be able to perform the following responsibilities and duties in a safe manner:

• Follow and comply with applicable good manufacturing, safety, food safety, and quality assurance rules and practices;
• Verify quality control items such as product weights, coding, packaging, GMP’s etc;
• Maintain proper documentation in all required record keeping formats;
• Prepare orders and verify packing lists and order information when loading and unloading;
• Occasionally collect payments from customers;
• Manage inventory at some customer locations, including checking expiration dates, restocking, and facing product;
• Operate company-owned and leased vehicles to facilitate deliveries to customers throughout the region.
• Communicate any driver delivery delays to customer service and account management.
• Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure time to review route changes, sample/promotion items, and load-out product for delivery;
• Perform required before-, during- and after-operation “user maintenance”, using Vehicle Maintenance check list and provide required reports;
• Return vehicle with fuel;
• Inform management of vehicle issues;
• Inform management of route issues and provide feedback on improving routes;
• Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations;
• As a Black River Valley Natural ambassador, you will need to make sure locations receive appropriate promotional materials and help to identify potential sales opportunities;
• Be knowledgeable about Black River Valley Natural and key developments;
• Maintain all required certifications required by DOT and OSHA and company safety programs;
• Maintain and protect all property in excellent condition. Maintain a clean vehicle;
• Agree to LENS search annually or as needed;
• Serve as relief/support staff to other team members as needed;
• Assist with general cleaning and housekeeping throughout the office and warehouse as needed;
• Work with management and other supervisory staff to assign, direct, perform, review and monitor work to maximize productivity and improve overall team operations;
• Help to ensure proper procedures are in place and being followed for production efficiency, quality of product, team member safety, and state and federal guidelines;
• Analyze and resolve work problems and deviations, or assist in problem solving;
• Maintain food safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining work areas in a sanitary manner;
• Immediately report food safety problems to management to initiate action;
• Ensure all programs are being upheld and documentation is current;
• Follow all Sanitation and Quality Policies and Procedures, and report and follow through on any deficiencies;
• The candidate must pass a company pre-employment physical and drug screen prior to commencing work;
• And any other responsibilities required by management.

• Proven history of attention to detail, good organizational skills, and strong communication skills;
• Demonstrate an understanding of our products;
• Ability to adapt effectively within a continually changing and demanding environment;
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability and willingness to communicate effectively in order to maintain high levels of safety, quality, and efficiency;
• Must be able to work with others in a team based environment but must also be able to work independently in a safe, efficient, and effective manner with little supervision on occasion;
• Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs;
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
• Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines when needed;
• Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills that enable high level interaction with senior management within the company and across our customer and supply base;
• Must be able to organize work and understand daily delivery needs;
• Must be able to maintain good relations with other team members;
• Must maintain professional and customer ready attitude at all times;
• Must show courtesy to other team members, customers, suppliers, vendors, contractors, and others with whom contact occurs as a representative of Black River Valley Natural;
• Ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures and company guidelines in order to maintain regulatory compliance;
• Must be able to demonstrate an attitude of continuous improvement and learning;
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must have the ability to write simple correspondence and complete documentation completely. Ability to effectively present information to other team members
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• And any other skills required by management.

Education and Experience

• 1 or more year(s) of experience as a truck driver.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Customer service experience.
• CDL is not required for this position

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

• While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
• This position is performed in outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
• The team member will be required to use all personal protective equipment provided by the company in compliance with OSHA regulations.
• While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand, use hands and stretch and reach with hands and arms. The team member is frequently required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The team member is occasionally required to climb or balance and smell. The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must have full range of body motion.
• May be required to wear food safety/sanitation clothing;
• This position necessitates conformance to personal hygiene regulations;

Job Type

Part-time to Full-time non-exempt position depending on the candidate with a minimum of 20 hours per week. Hours may vary throughout the week and week to week.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area travel may be expected.

Work Location

Work location for this position will be on site at the Black River Valley Natural warehouse in Lyons Falls, NY and nearby satellite locations.
