Dual Language Coordinator & Instructional Coach
ROLE PURPOSE
This is a vital role that supports the high quality Dual Language program in order to meet the needs of students and further our mission and vision. The Dual Language Coordinator supports school leadership to implement and evaluate a high quality Dual Language program, leads professional development of teachers regarding Dual Language practices and instruction, engages parents of students in the Dual Language program, and supports the overall coordination of Dual Language programming. Additionally, this role will include services as instructional coach to both Dual
Language and General Education teachers.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Coordination
● Attends required OLCE Professional Development for Dual Language Coordinators (DLC)
● Is an active lead member of the school’s Dual Language Leadership Team (DLLT)
● Coordinates and organizes DLLT meetings , on a regular basis as agreed upon (bi - weekly or monthly)
● Is the point person who leads and collaborates with the DLLT on the development of the school’s Dual Language Self - Assessment and Dual Language Action Plan on a yearly basis
● Assists in identification, purchase and allocation of high quality bilingual and bicultural educational materials
● Promotes the program in educational forums inside and outside of the school Informs various stakeholders about the program
● Commits to provide dual language professional development to school staff
● Participates in additional dual language professional development offered by OLCE, or organizations outside of the district
● Upholds and maintains the overall fidelity of the Dual Language Program
● Coordinates intake into DL program, including initial outreach, screening/assessment, and review of handbook
● Develops and maintains Dual Language School Handbook
● Makes recommendations for use of title funds related to dual language programming
● Engages community regarding DL program implementation and activities
● Assist teachers and administration with creating master and classroom schedules to align with DL program model, language, and content requirements
Instructional
● Supports classroom teachers by modeling best practices and sharing instructional feedback as needed as instructional Coach
● Assists teachers with dual language scheduling
● Meets with teachers to discuss instruction and programmatic related issues
● Collaborates with the facilitation of site/classroom visits for partner DLE schools when requested by OLCE
● Leads teachers in learning about dual language strategies and assessments through a PLC
Provides information and recommendation on quality instructional approaches
● Serves as a member of the ILT to support and reinforce DL best practices
● Collaborates with classroom teachers regarding curriculum/instructional supports and differentiation
● Assists with developing and creating standard-based (CCSS & WIDA) unit/lesson plans
● Reviews and collaborates in the selection of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) interventions for students in the Dual Language program
● Supports teachers with differentiating DL instruction and assessments
● Collaborates with instructional staff in aligning instruction with CCSS and WIDA SLD
● Shares current research and best practices around DL instruction with faculty
● Informs teachers and staff of available professional development opportunities to deepen their knowledge on DL instruction and programmatic best practices
● Provides training and leads professional development sessions regarding DL instructional practices
Advisory
● Lead the DLLT in organizing parent meetings to inform and/or solicit feedback about the dual language program
● Schedules and presents at least two DLE informational meetings to the parents of incoming students and those already enrolled in the program, as well as the community at large
● Provides school developed pamphlets about DLE program and/or updates DLE program information for the school’s website
● Provides DL program placement recommendations for staff to school leadership
● Supports family engagement and parent engagement efforts at the school to be fully inclusive of parents/guardians of students in the Dual Language program.
● Provides guidance to teachers and principals regarding DL program implementation
● Collaborate with school administration in all areas related to Dual Language
● Provides information for parents and community related to dual language instruction regularly
● Addresses parent questions and concerns regarding dual language programming
● Works collaboratively with parents on a regular basis to reinforce skills and provide tools, resources, and feedback to help their child grow academically and social-emotionally
Building Positive School Wide Culture & Classroom Environment
● Continually communicate and live the school’s mission and vision
● Promotes and prioritizes the spanish language, school-wide
● Acknowledge each student’s cultural and linguistic experience as an asset for the child’s own development and that of the other students
● Provides a multi-lingual lens to school-wide decisions, data evaluation, and individual student problem-solving in the MTSS process
● Supports strong and effective classroom culture rooted in Responsive Classroom, trauma-informed, and restorative practices
● Communicates high academic and behavior standards through words and actions
General Professional Responsibilities
● Regularly consult with the school leadership team and board to educate and build background knowledge of multilingual learners at a leadership level
● Collaborates with committees and initiatives that advance student learning and Erie’s
Mission and Vision
● Initiates and pursue professional development opportunities both inside and outside of the school
● Remains open to constructive feedback, coaching, and continual development; including making your practice public within the school
● Works collaboratively with all staff to uphold a strong culture of learning
● Attends staff meetings and additional meetings, as needed; including in-services, open houses and parent conferences
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
● Commitment to and belief in Erie’s Mission & Vision

● Minimum 3 years dual language teaching experience required
● Experience as program chair, teacher leader, professional development coordinator/facilitator, or instructional coach preferred
● Valid ISBE-Approved PEL license required
● Bilingual Endorsement required
● Bilingual Spanish/English required
● Master’s Degree in related field preferred
ROLE LOGISTICS
● 10 month employment according to Instructional calendar

- Time off/PTO Days - 11 Days (5.5 Sick Days + 5.5 Vacation Days (to be used interchangeably)
- Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund - Erie pays 5% of the required 9% Employee
Contribution to the pension fund in addition to the 11.16% annual Employer
Contribution for ISBE certified staff
- Employees are eligible to contribute to the 403(b) retirement plan. Erie will match contributions after 12 months if the employee is NOT certified
● This role will not hold any regularly scheduled student supervision duties (Lunch, Recess,
AM/PM, etc.), but may be asked to fill in (sparingly), as needed when on-site
● All instructional staff receive professional development and will be equipped with laptops, email, Internet access, and all necessary instructional supplies.
